BMS Reset

We got our 2015 D4 last October, we changed the smaller battery as it was bringing up a fault with the Start/Stop. At the time we didn't have a GAP, we have one now. Is it still worth doing a BMS reset even though the battery has been on for a few months?

I acquired my 2014 D4 last Summer and its small battery had been changed but SS didn’t operate - no error messages though.
I subsequently changed the main battery and also had no GAP so wasn’t able to do a BMS reset - still no SS.
Last month I finally did a BMS reset on both batteries and SS started working, so based on my experience I’d suggest doing the reset.

I changed my small battery without doing a BMS reset ( didn’t have the means to do one or the knowledge that it was even required at the time- despite plenty of reading up on how to do it !). Stop start commenced working immediately I changed the battery ( the eco stop/start not available warning light had been on , which is a key indicator that battery is goosed).
I spoke to someone knowledgeable about this later, and they told me that eventually the battery charging would sort itself out so if I hadn’t done it, then don’t worry about going back to do it later. (It had been weeks by then).
So I suppose in answer to your question, given my experience, I would say if it’s been a while then don’t worry about doing it.

A couple of points

As per the workshop manual, the bms is applicable to the main battery.
The aux battery is used as a “monitoring” battery, not a start battery.

The aux battery must be agm, like the main.

And the bms will sort itself out over time…. but why wait: if replacing, fully charge the batteries while off the vehicle, install, reset bms, and watch everything work as its supposed to.

There is no BMS sensor on the aux battery so it cannot be manged in the same way

Surprised by this. According to Disco Mikey ( very well respected member and Land rover specialist garage owner) a BMS reset on the aux battery BMS should be done after a change of aux battery. I believe I have seen the option to do that on the IID. ( Aux battery BMS reset).

As I said, I didn't do it and after finding out , months later, it should have been done, I didn't bother.

Here’s the thread where Disco_Mikey corrected me and advised there is BMS reset for both batteries.

Not saying I dispute DM (I wouldn't dare Wink )

However I didn't remember seeing a BMS module on the negative of mine and I have now checked on two separate battery change videos on YouTube and neither of them have one either.

The equivalent (loose) of a split charge relay (the PSDB) is also used in the RRS and Stuart did link to a write on how that works which also indicates there is no aux BMS sensor

and maybe compare your notes to an authorative source like the workshop manual…
As I have stated above, correct, the bms is connected to the main battery. period.
