brief noise under load during acceleration - !!!update!!!
slight brief noise has developed when car is accelerating from rest briefly at about 25 mph as it goes up thru revs, then happens again at about 30mph after a gear change (autobox)
much more pronounced under increased load (eg horsebox uphill !)
sounds like it may be transmission related issue (gearbox ? diff ?)
quite difficult to detect so I thought I'd post and see if anyone has similar issue before I take to dealer
it's getting worse over about 6 weeks)
Thanks for you help chapsIllegitimi Non Carborundum

if it was the diffs it would be the same regardless of gearchange.
have you had the gearbox oil changed.
i used to get a humming noise at 70mph to 80mph - did gearbox flush and not had it sinceDuncan

looks like
not looking forward to the 'we couldn't hear anything' discussionIllegitimi Non Carborundum
sounds like the same "noise" that I currently have. Can you also "feel" the noise (if that makes sense) through the steering wheel and pedals...?
I'm booked into the dealer tomorrow for them to take a look. I'll let you know what they say The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

exactly know what you mean...which is why it has taken me ages (as in a few months) to really believe "something" is there. The D3 was at the dealer just before Christmas so they could check it - they replaced one drive shaft and one wheel bearing so we thought that was the problem...obviously not...The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Same here. Dealer blames it on the AT2s.... The older I get, the better I was.

I've had a similar(?) thing with mine for ages now, I get a low frequency "drone" at 1500 RPM under a slight load, like a resonance, sounds a bit like a wheel bearing/tyre noise but obviously not, as it only occurs at a very specific engine speed and independent of road speed.
I had a megaflush done last year to resolve some auto box issues I had at the time, I thought the noise/vibration may have been related to the torque converter, but while the flush fixed the other issues, it made no difference whatsoever to the 1500 RPM noise.
I just ignore it now and will start worrying again only if it gets worse.Clive
well picked the D3 up from the dealer....they couldn't find anything. I do trust my dealer and the workshop manager. He had done a test drive at various speeds and had the car up on the hoist so they could run the car and listen to the diffs - nothing to report. The wheel bearings and drive shafts have been checked (one of each replaced just before Christmas).
"something" is there - that "low frequency drone" as crwoody states. The workshop manager also believes me as well so we will give it a couple of weeks and then go for a drive together.
However, I am now beginning to think it is "one of those things" but will keep an eye on it (or an ear out for it...)The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

don't worry - considering I've a weekend driving through the Ardennes followed by a weekend through Snowdonia before your Swiss trip, I think I will find out first The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
