Bushes and MOT fail
How much movement is normal in front lower rear bushes?- MOT fail on bushes in genuine arms fitted under warranty 2 years and 24k ago. I have jacked car up and used a 4 foot long crow bar with most of my strength and the maximum movement I can get is 5-6mm horizontal and vertical and 2-3 mm in and out across the barrel.
No bumps or bangs, no unusual tyre wear, car dives and steers perfect, 4 wheel alighnment was done 3 months ago simply as a precaution as I had fitted new tyres and wheels, this was done at a different garage that has got a Hunter system, they examined and checked all suspension and steering components and made a slight adjustment to front near side. If the bushes need changing they will unquestionably be changed but in my opinion they don’t.
Can the Disco be taken to another test station for a test without the bushes being changed?- It is marked as highly dangerous on the fail sheet It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Was it one of those garages that offers to replace the said failed item. Some of them are prone to exaggeration to drum up some work.
24k from replacement to being dangerous to drive seems unusual to say the least.
I’d be seeking a 2nd opinion.Discovery 4 HSE

If there is no knocking when sharply applying the brakes, or excess movement of the wheel backwards when dabbing the brakes at walking pace (while someone watches from outside the car!). And finally no leaks from the bushes themselves I would suggest they are ok.
A long while ago my local MOT bay were unsure & were pass & advising as to movement on the bushes on quite a few Discoverys. Until I took a vehicle back in to show them, that I had just fitted new bushes to, so they could gauge the movement on brand new ones. They were surprised how much they moved.
There is nothing stopping you from taking the vehicle to another testing station & paying for another test, but they could check the MOT history before they start!
Regards
Steve

No, believe it or not it was a no pass no fee jobo that I used regularly for the last few years, although I haven’t see the guy who tested it before, guess he won’t last long It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,

The place that does my MoTs had the local inspector round a few weeks ago. He was making sure they knew how to test these bushes - they do - because they've been getting loads of complaints across the region.
In short:
If it moves with prybar but returns to correct position afterwards, it's a pass..

Unfortunately the replacements fitted by my main dealer about 2 years ago, and about 30k miles have failed already. My theory is they didn’t measure suspension height properly before tightening them up. Right hand side is much worse than left.
I’m booked into dealer for ‘free’ mot on 21st, and hopefully WD will sort it all out! After all, they paid out 2 years ago, so I’ll let them have the argument! 🤞

Mine are definitely knocking their bits off! However I would question a fail if they weren’t knocking.

Decided to take it to another testing station today without anything being done and .............................................it past with flying colours, no advisories, no nothing.
The first MOT place even put advisories on the top rears and found a stone chip the size of a pin head on the screen
I was still getting my tools in place last night at 10pm and trying to remember who had borrowed my reciprocating saw It can when others can't,

Best not use the saw on the previous tester, it'll only get you in trouble!
