California stop!
It is claimed the latest gearbox ECU flash will cure the "CaliforniaStop" clunk when the gearbox changes into first when approaching a roundabout, can anyone confirm this who has installed it?

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Surely for £25 it would be worth a try!
My gearbox definitely feels smoother since the update, but I wasn't suffering from the California bug to start with

Pat did me a 'special' version of the latest SW with adjusted solenoid pressures - it was great for the first 6 weeks or so but has slowly returned. I think it's still better than it was but not gone.
I suspect it's giving me a bit of time but I think I'll end up treating her to a gearbox and TC overhaul next year.

Wow Mikey, you've pretty much replaced the whole drive train!!
Rear driveshafts and front propshaft will be the only original parts

The £25 isn't the issue, it's the risk factor that's involved, I have tried resetting the gearbox adaptions once without problems but with no improvement when the oil was flushed at 70k miles, now done 85k.It can when others can't,

M3DPO: I had the same "clunking CaliforniaStop" issue and am happy to report the transmission flash did fix my problem. I read all the posts and was still hesitant to follow through. I eventually wrote to GAP and Patrick got back to me the same day. I followed the instructions, paid $38 USD and downloaded the update. It's been 2 weeks now and I can't even recreate the "CaliforniaStop" transmission clunk if I try. Just my experience but it worked better than I expected.

I will have her on the ramps again and double check for any backlash in the transmission, I have already checked about a month ago and couldn't find anything excessive and have no reason to suspect any, the only time I get this clunk is at about 5mph when doing the CaliforniaStop. It's got to be worth giving the upgrade a try after all all the other upgrades I've done with the Iid tool have been a resounding success It can when others can't,

Update:
Ordered the firmware from Gap with the "fast lane" system and received it back within 3 hours. Installed it without problems although it does make the old heart tick a bit faster when everything goes black during the 6 1/2 minute re-flash.
I have now done approx 300 miles since which should be enough for the GB to settle down, although the "Californiastop" has not been completely eradicated it has certainly been greatly reduced, I am waiting for the bump and it never comes, where as before I got it almost every time I slowed to around 5mph and the accelerated. I have also noticed the gears seem to be held longer at lower speeds when slowing down, 6th gear for instance seems to be held to around 45mph before changing down and will even pull away at this speed, but during normal accelerating it does not change up until around 55mph depending on how hard it is driven, this has got to improve economy, only time will tell and so long as the bump doesn't return to how it was it will have been £25 well spent. It can when others can't,
