The Rocket Blower arrived today and I've been working on both my new DSLR and my Dads D40 - none of the dust/specs have moved. Evil or Very Mad

Prodded it (very, very carefully) with a soft cleaning brush and still no result.

Given that my camera is only a day or two over a week old, I am taking it to Jessops tomorrow morning and having them sort it out. I have now come to the conclusion that the dust was not my fault and could well have been there when the camera was purchased, as I have had the lens of countless times since with no problems. Also, the fact that the dust doesnt shift even after being 'pumped' with the blower suggests that it is stubborn and has been there for a length of time.

I want it back in time for going to Florence/Pisa on Thursday though!!

The sticky pads look to be the best solution - in the future.

I would have taken the body back as soon as though CY... make sure take some example pics on a lap top or prints if you can. And pics showing the same marks on each image. Not just one as they will say it was something else.

Thanks simon, I'll collate some photos now to take in. I've just looked back to some of the first photos I took on the camera - at a mate's house the evening of the day I bought the camera - and the dust spot is quite clearly there. I'm trying to brainstorm as to whether or not I had removed the lens by then. My general thought is no, other than to click it on in the first place when I got it. Confused

Well the EXIF data will have the date the picture was imaged... make sure you take a CD or Compact Flash with all the images on.

Evidentally I havn't been trying to clean the sensor correctly..

Took it to Jessops and they took it to the back room and sorted it out. I hadn't been locking the mirror up or on full battery when I tried.

Just to test it, I did the same technique on my Dad's D40 - locked up the mirror and blew it with the Rocket Blower - and it's cleared all the specs of dust! Thumbs Up

Both cameras working beautifully now. Magic Very Happy

the spots generally wont move with a blower as they become charged and stick to the sensor plate. when they took it to the back room they probably wiped the sensor with pec pads or similar. this is the only true way of cleaning the sensor plate and blowing can tend to blow particles into other areas of the camera or blow other particles not already on the plate onto it. I had some articles on sensor cleaning and it is quite easy. owning a camera with a removable lense will require cleaning of the plate from time to time anyway so best to learn yourself or fork out some dosh periodically. start with this and I'll see if I can dig up some more usefull stuff.

edit
heres a pretty good one

CY - RTFM Mr. Green

Don't go messing with a DSLR until you are sure you know what you are doing when it comes to cleaning. Full battery - or mains lead and lock the mirror from the menu etc as you now know.

I use green clean stuff to good effect, but always dread doing it. Best advice is to be meticulous in everything you do when changing lenses. Keep your camera bag clean, keep your lens bags clean. Always minimise dust, rain and any chance of letting dust and stuff get in . . . .

Enjoy.
