D3 Rear Tailgate Struts

Hi all,

Going to be putting a rear ladder on the Disco, and therefore need 'beefed up' struts for the rear tailgate - any ideas of what ones are best and where from?

Cheers

Contact SGS, same people that do the axle stands and trolley jacks.

I just fitted a ladder and the struts weren't up to it and they supplied a 525nm pair and I now
have to make sure my chin is out of the way when opening.

Should be fun if I take the ladder off.

only cost about £20 the pair

Does anyone know do these heavy duty struts start pushing the door straight away on unlatching or do you still need to pull the door out a good bit before it starts opening itself?
Thanks

The door needs to be opened a few inches, much like the standard set up, they just push with a but more gusto once they get going.

Well Bodsy, that's about 2 minutes of your weekend used up. Real easy job for a change.

I would like my boot lid to do this

Would fitting the uprated (525nm) struts be the answer...?

Possibly part of the answer but there is more to it than that as on any D3 I have seen, the latch
only ever operates part way and needs an additional press of the catch.

Shame as a nice idea.

Maybe someone on here knows how it can be done as would be very handy
when loading the car and have hands full.

The latch will work, but you need something to push the tailgate out, since the geometry is designed to place the strut just "behind" the point of minimum length. The stronger the strut, the stronger force would be needed to overcome this initial resistance, so a weaker strut might actually be easier. Thumbs Up

It looks to be an easy mod to do.
That is also what I was planning with my previous question. I was looking into "adding" an extra spring that would push out the door a few inches until the strut takes over. I used a spring andheld it in place with a string for testing and it gets the door moving after using the remote to open the door. Not much tweaking and it'll work. But I ran into a major insurmountable problem.... I'll need the third button on the remote for the FBH. On a frosty morning I don't want to come out expecting a lovely warm Disco and instead find a snowstorm blowing in the back door. Big Cry
If somebody can find a simple solution to that I'd happily get the remote tailgate opening working.
