Insurance quotes seem to be a lottery and whether your details happen to fit.

I was previously insured via A-Plan, but for the last 7 years was with Admiral, each year having to call them to lower their premium, but when my renewal arrived following the switch to the D4 they were taking the proverbial and even after knocking off over £200 they could only match A-Plan so I switched on principle.

I have never been that keen on Admiral, after they reckoned the factory fitted sat nav on my previous Honda wouldn't be covered and they seemed to think I was stupid when I asked if the metallic paint wasn't covered as that was also an extra.

I use the original office and work direct with Amber, no problems at all direct access to the underwriters there, all mods declared and photographs even emailed.

Phone Amber and tell her the problem

I am sure you are right Martin, but on the Compare site there were about 8 insurers offering prices considerably (ie more than £100) cheaper quotes than the A plan quote.

I find it strange that a broker would not be able to even get close to a bunch of other prices which are freely available to all online.

But there is no logic to it. Even with admiral, it was cheaper to put my wife as a named driver on the Disco than to have me on it alone. Even though she will never drive it. how does that work????

So the moral of the story is as above really, shop around. Smile

No insurer can be the cheapest for everyone, for some reason you won't fit with the profile that A-Plan's underwriters want to insure (I'm not going to start to guess why!).

problem with the comparison sites or most peoples comparisons, they don't compare like for like - just the price Rolling Eyes

cheap price is cheap cover.

ive stuck with LRI even though it is more expensive - cant find another policy that gets even close.

Why do so many buy insurance based on cost regardless of the quality Confused

DiscoDunc is spot on with his comments. Thumbs Up

I left my Trade insurance a bit late for comfort to phone around for quotes. Ran out midday Wednesday, I phoned A-Plan late Monday afternoon. I was told I had called the wrong office, and the nice lady on the phone took my name and number, and said someone would call back.

No-one called back.

My broker ended up panicking as I hadn't renewed and called me on Tuesday, I plucked a nice random figure from thin air, as a "comparison", and they ended up beating their own best quote by over £400 Laughing

I dont think anyone knows the quality of the insurance until they make a claim.

What I do know is that I have achieved exactly the same cover on paper that both RAC and A plan were offering for around £500 - for around £300 with Admiral.

Cheep insurance on the face of it seems just as good.. I just had another look on a comparison site and it ticks all the boxes. Legal cover, key cover an extra £8, windscreen, personal effects, audio equipment, personal acedent, courtesy car & European cover. The cheapest one didn't offer recovery but I'm in the AA so it not an issue for me. I figure they all use the same few underwriters and loss assesors so its who will do it for the smallest margin.

I'm certainly not about to pay more than needed because a broker has a posh office.

I've no idea why but adding my mother as a named driver knocks £££££ off. She never will, she says the discovery's to big but legally she could and so is named just incase.
Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

Yes but on the face of it so do cheap brand tyres and cheap engine oil but would we be happy with them?

Have your modifications been accepted by your new Insurer.

Did you compare the approved repairer network, repair guarantee, admin fees for both temporary and permanent changes.
Thumbs Up

Nothing to do with A-Plan but on the subject of comparing insurance,

My renewal came through from privilege £315.00 and they say they will automatically renew at the end of the month, NO they won't!

I looked at a comparison site, privilege were coming in at £229.00, not the cheapest that I can pick from.

The automatic renewal will get ripped up obviously, fancy office, people doing Censored all for my hard earned cash etc Evil or Very Mad

Admiral were cheapest at £210.00

All these prices include protected no claims, courtesy car ( I want like for like not a proxy 1.0l corsa, so pay extra for that) legal expenses, but don't bother with the breakdown as I'm in the AA.

So by the end of the month I will be doing a bit phoning around.

Do I want baby Oleg or not? That's the catch now

Thumbs Up

I'm just down the road from Johnny Oxford, A Plan were way out on my renewal last year, phoned the MK number as directed, it was the Aylesbury Branch that returned the call. They did say they would call back to try and be more competitive, still waiting.
