He refers to it in the video as an "integrated brake controller setup". I have no idea what that means though. Rolling with laughter

Google brings up this, but still not sure I am any wiser.

A further google brings up this

"An electric brake controller is a device that sends a signal from your vehicle’s brakes through the 7-pin hook-up on your hitch, to your trailer. Your trailer has brakes already, but they won’t work unless you install a brake controller who can interpret the signal. Think of the controller as the heart of your trailer braking system. All the brake lines (veins and arteries) can flow power from your tow vehicle, but are useless without the heart/controller to actually pump/control that power.

The power for braking your trailer originates from your car or tow vehicle. With a brake controller the power goes from your vehicle to your trailer’s brakes, reducing the wear and tear on your vehicle brakes and making for safer stops. Without a brake controller the brakes and tires on your trailer simply lock up when you apply the brakes in your vehicle, leading to all sorts of problems, accidents and trailer flips."

My guess is its some sort of electric device that applies the trailer brakes (to a set percentage) to slow you down rather than the vehicle braking and slowing the trailer?

Think I prefer the UK method.

As Jamez says, it's an electric brake controller. Very popular in Australia (and probably the states) for trailers etc. For some reason, they don't seem to go in for the hydraulic brakes on trailer and caravans like we do over here.
You do need to calibrate them as well when first fitted.

Yeah the Expedition Overland guys always talk about them in their builds on YouTube. Adjustable ones are good apparently so you can dial it up for off-road use (e.g. crawling downhill)

Yes, the one I had fitted had a button you could press to increase the braking (forgot about that) temporarily, the little plus and minus buttons on the one in the picture
