Yeah, as stated earlier in this or some other thread, there are plenty of V8s with 400-500k km on them and the original engine.
I also haven’t heard the 180k miles or 289k km thing before.

Bought mine 6 months ago on a 182k with full history. Kinda hoping to keep oils clean, add fuel (A lot of fuel)and keep going.

The V8 is fine. It‘s the other D3/4 parts that worries me.
Next week she gets new rear upper and lower control arms, tie rods, stabilizer bar and knuckle bushes, flexible brake hoses, AMK compressor and oil seal for the leaking rear diff (halfshaft side).
When that‘s done, I‘ll take care of aux belts, tensioner, alternator and water pump ... maybe thermostat housing, too. And then there‘s rust ... Hmm suddenly that Landcruiser doesn‘t look that ugly anymore _,,,_______///________

How many miles are people up to now? Anyone beat the post where someone says they all die at 180,000?
LR3 V8s are very common in the US (I'm here and I was spoiled for choice when I looked for mine). Most are high mileage cars and many well over 180K. Although I'm only on 100K I would dispute (and have never heard) the 'death at 180K' thing before.
I love the V8, as thirsty as it is.
It's tosh put out by all those lunched crank shaft D3/4 diesel bois

Do your due diligence. But I don’t think 169k miles is a lot.

Second that. 169k with good service history shouldn't put you off. Good maitenance history would be beneficial and give a good idea as to how well it's been cared for and give an indication of what may need attention and negotiate accordingly. Good Luck.

I bought mine on 155,000 and it has been excellent!
I would recommend going through all the MOT history online looking for fails and receipts to see what has been changed. At 170,000 it shouldn't (imo) still be on the original shocks, wheel bearings or suspension bushes so hopefully these have been changed at some point.
...if not then you probably know what's likely to go next.

Thanks all, Found another but with these MOT advisories
They dont look horrific to me:
• Rear Anti-roll bar pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement d; bushes (5.3.4 (a) (i))
• Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()
• Offside Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.1.3 (b) (i))
• Offside Front Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
• Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
• Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
Worst appears to be the Steering Rack and Lower Arms?
This one is cheaper and 20,000 less miles.

Steering rack inner ball joints are a simple fix and cheap.

Lower arms are the biggest job on the list but even those are not too tragic. Stu

I'm sure a lot of testers could find play in a lot of areas if they try hard enough. I would check the MOT history to see if any of these advisories have made an appearance before. I know from experience that advisories don't always follow on! still trying to work out how some elements can be advised on one year and not get a mention the next, with zero work done? and the same tester! You will know straight away from a test drive whether you have suspension bush concerns.
2 to choose though not bad going in the v8 form.

A lot of tester's just note these things to make it look like they are doing a full inspection if they ever get checked out by the GM.
All of them are quick and easy items to add, but nothing I would worry about on them..
