Door actuators a comparison of cheap and expensive

Can anyone confirm if the door actuators are backwards compatable ??

I mean can you fit a newer keyless type in place of the older non keyless type ?

Iv bought x2 door actuators off the bay 1 for less than £7 unbranded the other £28 sellers own brand x5 year warrenty so far I can see no obvious difference

Well I'm happy to report both locks work as they should iv fitted both with no issues and now have a spare to keep in the garage

I partially stripped them both down and its fair to say they were most likley made in the same chinease factory . The original lock had made in Germany label on it over another label I think at some point it had been swopped out and someone put a label for a sport over a label from a D3 or even a freelander.

Have now got it down to 35 mins to swop out the lock the key being to use a trim tool to hold open the furthest most glass latch lift up the glass at that end bit of strong tape then clip it out at the front end.

Let's see how long it lasts.

FWIW, I got two door latch actuator modules in summer 2021. They were original LR, had made in Germany stickers on them and were manufactured in January 2021.

Hi,

what have you found as the best way to unclip the cable from the outside handle to the actuator Question

do you remove the outside handle complete with cable still attached
(I have never managed to even get the outside cover off the handle to start with Rolling Eyes )
or do you manage to disconnect the cable before removing the actuator,
thats what I have done in the past 1/4 turn the end of the cable via the catch keeper opening.

even though I have done 1 on RRS, 2 on FL2 and 3 on D3's (2 on current D3) I still find that the hardest part Laughing

I unbolt the actuator and let it drop then hold it with my left hand and just use a small probe/screw driver threw the large gap in the door where the actuator was and prise it out from its little clip then just rotate the wire and it pops out.....does that make sense ? Iv never yet removed the outer door handle.

Hi,

yes that sounds the same way I have done them, tried to explain the same way Laughing

I even have a special tool now to release the "tooth" of the plastic clip holding the cable outer
(its a long ali nail with the tip bent 90 degrees Whistle )
easily pops off then

its putting that cable end back on that I find so fiddly Rolling Eyes long nose pliers seem to work ok last time,
although I hope I dont have to do any more of them Exclamation

Remove outer handle is the easiest way. Takes seconds to remove and makes the job 100x easier Thumbs Up My D3 Build Thread
