| Front to rear brake pipes |
|
A recent dealer inspection picked up a few minor issues but also reported excessive corrosion of the front to rear brake pipes as a major problem as they pass over the rear diff (and a eye watering cost to replace).
On the JLR Classic parts list it shows the two full length pipes as expected but also two service parts which look like just the rear section of the complete pipes. Has anyone fitted these "service" pipes to answer these questions?
Q1. I can see no join in the full length pipes in the drawing so does fitting the service pipes require cutting the original pipes and flaring them to make a join?
Q2. How far forward do the service pipes go? i.e are they long enough to go over the diff and presumably remove the corroded sections? A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an MG5 EV

Have a look at this post, if you use the search function a few more will come up, pipes require cutting and flared, there's no join from factory.

I did this repair on mine a few years back, someone gave me one of the Landrover repair sections and where you need to make the join is a bit of a pain if your lying on your back under the car as I think it joined up somewhere near the rear suspension, doable but awkward. I made my own up and made the joins under the heat shield at the side of the car.

Two schools of thought on this one.
Some use the LR parts… and some use generic lines.
I’m an oem kind of person but my best friend is able to maintain his on a shoestring compared to me.
He ran new generic lines along side the bypassed factory lines. (just like @capripaul) And covered them in paint to reduce the rusting effect.
And no need to separate the body from the frame, LOL.

Just watched LRTime and it looks like Christian opted for the same His joint is well into the flat run under the floor, protected by the heat shield.
He also thanked the TUV (MoT) inspector that failed the corroded brake pipes. The simple act of unclipping the pipes and scrape the rust with a nail was enough break the pipe and cause a leak. A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an MG5 EV
