Fuel filler flap catch fell off in my hand!

When last stopping to fuel up I opened the flap to get to the cap and the mechanism that holds the flap closed just fell to pieces in my hand!! On closer inspection I can see that one of the catches has snapped off that actually hold the flap shut. My questions are 1, where can I get the replacement parts? 2, can normal people fix this or will I require a new drivers side of my car to be fitted? 3, how/ why has this happened? Has some unsavory character tried to steal fuel from me?? Any info/ advice welcome cheers Thumbs Up

1. Your local dealer or TLO
2. Yes, may be a bit fiddly as some of the parts are small
3. Sometimes parts just break.

A photo would help identify the part you need, look at http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...l_Flap.pdf for an exploded view of the filler flap.

I've just found this too - it seems 405C44 and <021A32 have snapped off and are stuck in the other bits. Very useful that PDF. Know exactly what to ask for now. This Forum and the search function are really coming up trumps!!
Thumbs Up

Actual LR part numbers for items 505C44 and <021A32 are:
ARV780020 (Bezel) and CAL500070 (Seal) no more than about £2-£3 each

The other parts of the catch are:

<405A24 = Spring BPA780120
<29152 = Retainer BPA780110
9C070B= Actuator BPA780101

all less than £2 each.

Just got the parts needed as said £4.50 for the pieces required. Now to have a go fitting them!! The exploded diagram is v helpful as it shows that I was trying to stick the old pieces together backwards D'oh!!! Laughing

Just dragging up an old thread rather than starting a new one:
I've been messing around with what would seem like a trivial repair on my D3 over the last few days or so. A little while ago the fuel filler flap latch broke and I found a repair kit available - DA1114 (aftermarket parts). Well after going through 2 kits I found the piece that attaches to the flap door is useless and doesn't work. If you need to replace that part just go straight for a genuine part from LR (under $9AUS - ARV780020). Heres a few short videos, hopefully this saves someone from the same frustration I had for what would seem like a simple repair

I have just now repaired the fuel flap latching by fitting kit DA1114, which was purchased via eBay for £10.75 including postage (it came from an independent Land Rover parts dealer). I decided to buy the kit rather than save a few quid by stripping the latching assembly first, try to work out which of the parts was needed and then buying that part.

The YouTube video at https://youtu.be/Dv8hRUQq67s shows how to replace the parts.

However, when I stripped the existing parts out for replacement I could see no sign of visible damage or wear, but they were very oily.

I first encountered a problem wit fuel flap latching the first time I filled the tank after the tank fuel pump failed and the RAC were called out and the vehicle ended up being recovered. What I suspect has happened is that either in putting some diesel in the tank form a can (by the RAC man to rule out a faulty gauge) or replacing the tank fuel pump diesel has got into the to flap latching mechanism.

So I suspect I might have got away with just stripping the latching mechanism and cleaning it, rather than fitting the kit.
