Gearbox rebuild: worth doing the valve body too ? |
|
Hiya,
Looking for some collective wisdom: my D3 had what felt like a typical TC failure so I've taken it back to the car dealer under warranty, and they're paying for a gearbox rebuild (£2k, which sounds about right from browsing the forum) and said that according to the specialist they're using, the valve body is not part of the current problem but whilst the box is apart they're willing to split the cost of replacing that too, if I wish.
It sounds like a sensible idea to me (thinking of it like a cambelt/water pump type work package), and I can't fault the dealer for not replacing a part that isn't being rebuilt, but I'm fuzzy on what the valve body does and how it may fail/upset things in the future. I'm leaning towards paying for this extra as the vehicle itself was a good price to start with and the £300 I'm being asked for isn't stupid when looking at the labour alone.
Thanks for any advice !

Thanks ! I'll definitely be calling them back first thing and getting that sorted then.
It's always a shock when I end up talking to a new garage and find they're being straight with me - I have a hard time turning off my inner-cynic
Cheers

I had mine changed with the rest of the box. It is a no brainier really especially if you have some decent mileage on the car

You may find they offer a better warranty if the mechatronic unit is replaced. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
