I wish I had made use of the search facility before breaking the glove box light trying to replace the bulb
But sadly I only looked after getting out a spring and a random piece of metal, rather than a bulb!
But thanks to the tips I was able to get both halves of the light holder out and put them back together (it even worked as well!), putting it back was a bit of a challenge, but it is now back together and working, albeit with the original bulb Andy
Just realised my glove box bulb wasn't working whilst sat in the car tonight. Had a quick look on here for some guidance or indeed if there was a light in the first place!
I used the suggestion to remove the collar & push the whole switch unit back into the void behind it which worked well.
I thought the least i could do was post a picture of the offending article so you can understand why the bulb is so hard to find

I replaced mine a couple of months ago, step by step instructions
1) Open glove-box
2) Item marked 1 Using a small screwdriver, move the white plastic piece forward (upwards in picture), it will not come all of the way off so dont try.
3) Squeeze together the plastic lugs around the round plunger and press slightly inwards.
4) Item marked 2 Squeeze together the plastic lugs on the second fixing to the RHS of the plunger.
5) Push slightly in.
Hopefully at this point you will have managed to remove the switch assembly from the plastic surround.
The next step in my opinion to make life much easier is to remove the 2 Torq 20 screws, from underneath, this allows a little more movement of the plastic facia and will allow you to gat the switch assembly out, and more importantly back in.
Like other posts have said, the original bulb is a better option than the LED, although I may look at a flat LED upgrade in the future.
I hope I have explained this in sufficient detail, it is from memory from a couple of months ago, and I didnt take any pictures, but have taken one from the post before and marked it up. Perhaps next time

LEDs are directional, so I think an LED strip would be better...Dave

I found that the best thing to have when doing this bl bulb replacement is
A plaster for the seriously cut up hand life is tooooo short.enjoy the moment.dont worry be happy
When I open and close the glove shrine, its light on light off....
Been reading this thread this morning...t'reminded me of that there was no light in mine the last weeks...
When I tried to figure out where the bulb could just be, I found out, that there is no reflector or so.
I also changed a lot of bulbs for the reason of saving all the battery juice for more important bits and bytes and signals and so.
But in the case, when You calculated that an LED is having a life time expectation of 40.000 working hours, while a glove box is problably used 2.000 for appr. 12 seconds....it, totaly globaly thinking, makes not the biggest sense...
And fmpov the reason for not finding what I'm looking, for mostly is not , that it's not bright enough...but that I'm........äæh
What did I wanted to say...?!?!
So Mikey, it is in deed a difficult one!
Irony off
By the way: repaired the thing by suddenly it worked again, while just fingering around...

Managed to change the bulb. I like it when things that are meant to work work. Gettinh the bulb holder/switch thingy back in was a bit of a b r though. Thanks to rogc for the "how to".
