Goodby and thanks for all the fish

After 8 years of happy ownership I am moving on from my D3 to pastures new. I no longer need the 7 seats and have left my caravan in storage in the South of France so no towing required either. So I have just traded it in for a 2013 BMW 520d Touring...pick it up on Friday...we'll see how it goes Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the help and advice from this forum over the years, you have saved me thousands !!

That's all folks...

Goodbye Big Cry Big Cry

Goodbye and hope the 520 hits the spot.

PS: Does your new car have the N47 2.0d engine? If it does, may I respectfully suggest that you keep an engine warranty, that covers camchain failure and all related damage, for as long as you own the car? It'll be a good investment and could save you more cash than you've saved here over the whole of last 8 years! Thumbs Up

Indeed, I have read about the N47 engine timing chain issues, this car is a BMW used approved with the usual 12 months warranty and I have paid for the extra 12 months BMW warranty too so I should be good for the next couple of years...Thumbs Up

The N47 was on the 1 and 3 series. If had been on the 5 it would be on the E60 which was replaced by the F11 so you should be ok.

Thanks, I'll clarify which engine I have once I have the car tomorrow so I can keep an eye (or ear open) if I do indeed have an N47 engine, but the BMW warranty gives me peace of mind either way Thumbs Up

Still miss my old 11 plate F11 520d estate. High 40s mpg, only one minor fault in 2 years and plenty of poke for me. In the two years I ran it I took it to the dealer twice, and one of those was for a service. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Funnily enough I get my 530d M Sport Tourer tomorrow. The D3 will be going shortly once I've sorted it out. Not worth trading it in with 234k on the clock. [/url]

Got my 530d msport F11 about 6 months ago- permagrin. Lots of toys, oodles of oomph and a few lighting mods and cosmetic changes done already. Frequent trips across Germany are fun too.
I have no idea but the wife and kids prefer the disco and the elders can get in and out easier so it still ticks a couple of boxes and stays with us on the drive.

It was in the then current 5 Series and the X3 as well.

I mentioned the camchain issue to a good friend that ran a 2012 5 Series M Sport.

Unfortunately, thought nothing of it, until the "fitted for life" cam chain snapped at 4 years and 90,000 miles and wrote the engine off Sad
