Hand brake warning

My brother in law has got the bug and just bought a 56 plate HSE full spec, parking sensors work, rear tail gate works, fridge works, voice control for phone ??? Mines 2008 and I didnt know it was a thing ! £2250 !!! Unbelievable he bought it from a friend who has moved to a disco 4.
One problem, I have instructed him not to use the park brake to avoid obvious problems but a little too late maybe, he had been using it but know it seems to be stuck off (maybe a good thing) the P is displaying on the dash but is flashing ??? Anybody got any ideas what a flashing P means ?? The park brake is definitely off ???
Thanks Paul

I'm in rossendale.
It may either be stuck or unwound on the actuator in the module

Or the release cable pulled fo you hear it whir and click as the EPB is applied

You should always use the handbrake not using it can lead to parts siezing up and when it does get used it will fail.
I think he needs to start by servicing and adjusting the rear parkbrake shoes, its no good working on the system if there not adjusted correctly.
