Heat shot heated screen wash review

Well after buying the above a year or longer ago I finally got around to fitting it and put it to action on our 18 hour drive to France during minus 11.

http://www.lrparts.net/the-heat-shot-retro...aping.html

I have the heated screen and jets but despite this the juddering of the wipers at anything much below freezing and the crappy jets results poor washing. The grease doesn't come off and the juddering drives me mad.

I mounted the heat shot in the spare battery section LHD so close to the feed to the jets. I takes a second or two for the hot water to come out and wow what a difference. The screen is so clean and no juddering I was delighted to say the least. A must have if you live east of France I would say. I can't wait to test it in summer on the bugs as again I find the LR old school jets useless compared to the new spray jets that all other manufacturers seem to have switched to. I tried to fit some of the spray type to the d4 but the focus o es don't fit. If anyone else has tried and lp found a replacement let me know

A word of warning. The screen wash pipe looks to be covered in a corrugated plastic cover (like what cables are run in). I cut it expecting to reveal the rubber pipe and was surprised to get wet. This pipe isn't ideal for joining but. Bit of heat and persuasion and it pushed on to the connector. This is on D4 I think D3 is rubber pipe all the way.

Best Regards Ian

These were popular a while back but the import of them seemed to stop. If I recall correctly they were badged as Webasto for a while too.

Fantastic but not cheap either. The ones i had on my BMW drew quite a few amps!!

I see they are sold by MPS. They sold me my expedition fridge / freezer. Great service. I might just go for one at that price.

Thanks for the link Thumbs Up

I have one of the original 'Hotshot' units, made by Microheat and sold under the Webasto name.
Microheat (IIRC) went bust after the units were factory fitted to some models of GM cars, and some wiring fires were blamed on them. The cynical might speculate on undersized manufacturer wiring on one end or the other...

I've had the unit for 5 years or so, probably over 150k miles in my Ibex. It's worked keeping the screenwash flowing in Northern Norway with temperatures well below -10C.

I've never got the 'instant defrost' feature to work reliably - it seems the 'engine running' detection voltage is set a little too high for my system voltage. But the 'ready hot wash' feature was a lifesaver driving through a blizzard in Romania where the usual necessity is to pull over and shovel clean snow onto the screen.

In short, I'm a fan... if mine failed I'd buy another ASAP.

Anyone know if Heatshot is still available? I'm struggling to find them online. I fitted a Heatshot unit to my FL2 when I got it and found that it was great in both summer and winter - winter is obvious but warmer screenwash seems to help get the fatty bug-residue of the screen as well. It was one of these relatively cheap mods that was well worth it. I was hoping to add one on the D3 and now wish I had stripped it off the FL2 before I sold it! Big Cry
