Ignition key not charging |
|
I've been having a few problems with my key over the past week. Often it would take several attempts to unlock the car, and a message informing me to insert key to charge the battery on the message center.
Anyway, after getting locked out again today, I called in at Guy Salmon Stockport, and they took the car into the workshop to try and diagnose the problem. There was no immediate problem found, but I had a photo of the error message to back up the claim.
Credit to GS, they are ordering a new key, and should be able to program it when the car goes in for its MOT next week

Is this a key you don't use very often? I don't know what the battery technology in the fob is and whether the battery suffers from memory problems? Lots of short charging cycles, or leaving discharged for a long while, can chemically affect some battery types (think 80's remote controlled cars). Perhaps that's the issue. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

No, its the main key. it gets used lots daily. I suspect the battery has just died after nearly 90k.
