interior heater blowing cold all the time
I have a problem with the interior heater blowing cold all the time , The pipes that both go to the heaterMatrix Radiator are cold all the time even after a long drive , the temp gauge is showing normal ,the coolant is at the correct level and the discovery drives fine just no heat . I take it ,it is a thermostat problem but which thermostat the one at the top of the engine or the one at the bottom of the radiator. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the reply Pete K . So there is no thermostat at the top of the engine , I thought the part in the picture was a thermostat.

The thermostat is under tha radiator in the big hose, are you sure the flaps that direct the air flow are moving, if its stuck on the cold air one then it will blow cold air, check that when you change the dials from hot to cold that you can hear the flaps move. Also do the self test on the heater control buttons.

Thanks Flack for the reply the flaps are ok, the pipes that go to the heatermatrix are cold and the pipes under the bonnet that go to the heatermatrix are also cold

It’s main task is to bridge the coolant from the 2 heads and connect various pipes together

I have now cleaned out all the hoses flushed the matrix both ways and filled with new coolant there are no blockages or air locks and still no hot air , the only thing left is the thermostat , also the picture I have attached for coolant flow , does any one know if this is correct for uk models as mine is connected differently .The heatermatrix is connected to the thermostat on mine as in the picture by one hose but the other hose from the matrix goes to the pre heater / fuel burner not the EGR as in the picture. I have not had the Discovery very long and the heater was not working when I got it , but it looks like the previous owner has been doing a few repairs on it just wondering if they have connected a pipe in the wrong place . Any help will be appreciated. TIA.

Your diagram doesn’t show the FBH heater
You can’t flush these matrix in the car as the dirt has to go so far up hill, it Doesn’t.
If you have a Dremal you can sometimes remove the matrix from the right footwell. (Depending if there are pipe joints)
Chris had success in flushing outside the car

Thanks Pete , I did flush the matrix from the pipes under the bonnet with a hose but it did not work , So tried a second time today and connected a power washer to the pipes and flushed both ways, you would not believe how much muck came out with the power washer under pressure , refiled with coolant and now the heater works fine it is like a sauna in the cab with the heat .
