Great topic , this always puzzled me as well.
One question though: after you pull the gear release lever, how do you release the EPB? As I understand it, there is an extra EPB release lever, is this right? Doesn't this require electric power?
Also, how do you reverse the procedure, after you've pulled the levers? I mean, suppose I get a new battery for my D4, for example, put it on and everything works fine. Do I have to visit a dealer to get things as they were in the first place?
Buellbeast (or anyone else), It would be great if you could publish a detailed step by step guide for this with some more photos.
Cheers

Promitheus. Located close to the gear selector release lever (red one) is a smaller release leaver with a wire loop on the end which if pulled releases the EPB. It requires quite a pull to relase but it is a mechanical release not electric one so needs no electrics. Once released and power is restored the EPB should function as normal.

Disco_Mikey - remember that the transmission selector knob does not raise itself unless the engine actually starts I.e. switching on the ignition does not raise it ! It's not just a case of "putting 12V into the system"
Never noticed I had strayed into the D4 forum. I was refering to D3 My D3 Build Thread

buellbeast and markate, thanks a lot for clearing everything out for us!
How about reversing the procedure? Is it possible or only a dealer's job?

Applying the handbrake using the switch re-latches it and normal operation is resumed. Turning the rotary dial to neutral and then back to park also resumes normal operation.Club Forum Criminal !!!

Just had to search for this post for a friend with a truculent D4. Anyone know why Land Rover does not put this in the owner's manual as it is not exactly complicated?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I just had the LR survey for my car, I did point it out as it seems very basic, unless of course you don't know about it.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Yes it was and remembered it and searched for it. Not every D4 owner does so and to me at least it seems a strange thing to leave out of the handbook and warn owners that it can only be done by LR qualified personnel. From your post I guess you know the reason why so feel free to share the knowledge!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Think it needs to be remebered, those of us on here are only a small percentage of owners, this should be in the handbook!Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Perhaps this needs to be made a sticky or entered into the WiKi if not already done.
