Still not sure whether I will look back on this as a moment of complete insanity or total genius, but I have just ordered a D4 (HSE, Buckingham blue, Almond leather, Grand black lacquer, privacy glass, 20" wheels) to replace my faithful but ancient 3 series touring.
Nothing to do now but drool over the brochure for 8 weeks...
Actually - does anyone know if you can download the user manual anywhere? Might as well droll over that as it will probably take me months to get to grips with all the techno-wizardry...

Welcome and you have made a good decision. All I would say is that you'll be lucky if you only have to wait 8 weeks. Dealers are struggling for allocation and there are now supply issues with 3.0tdv6 due to a higher number of RRS v6 orders compared with tdv8.

Well, it would have cost you a lot more here....probably 25.000 GBP more because of car taxes.  The older I get, the better I was.

When I see posts like this I can't help but think LR have just got their pricing wrong. £50k on a Disco is too much and when my D3 is out of finance, unless prices take a dramatic tumble there is no way i will even consider moving onto a D4.

I often think the same 3 months on. 50K? 50K? 50K?
But when I drive it, and when I see it in a car park next to all the euro-boxes, and when I see people checking it out, I think, yeah... that's a bloody good car that is, does everything!

For sure you get a lot for your money. A vehicle that does everything for that price? Fair I'd say. The older I get, the better I was.

Its the people who pay well over £50k for a RR Sport that I think you should worry about. For that money they get a car that has less seats, less room, less user friendly features, less flexibility - but they do get a "premium badge" saying Range Rover. The Discovery 4 seems very expensive compared to a 200tdi Disco 1, or a TD5 Disco 2. It looks more than recent prices paid for a Disco 3 as well. But compare it with premium badge models or even what else is on the market with the same capability and finish - and I think you will find that £50k is not an "insane" price.
When we got our HSE I thought I should have gone for the XS but didn't have the patience to wait for one to come available. My mate has recently got a D4 XS and I was expecting to feel that he got a lot better deal. But I was surprised how much the premium feel of the HSE really adds to the user experience such that I am now glad we "pushed the boat out" and went for the full spec and full price model.
And by the way - we also have a RRS TDv8 which is now over 3 years old. Wont be buying another one - but still very happy with the one we have. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

I agree - much better value for money than the Range Rover / Sport.
Clarkson reckons that the D4 driver will always feel like the poor relation of the Range Rover driver, but my view is that you get all the comfort, refinement and ability, without the "look at me - I'm terribly successful" badge that can come with the Rangey.

Cheers Adam, what colour did you go for?
I agonised over the colour choice - I love dark blue but worried that it will mark on hedges etc more than lighter colours. Plus all the marketing shows sand / bronze / grey...

Stornaway Grey - brother in Law's RRS swung me - looks cool - I've had silver cars (incl D3) for years - so I though good change plus low maintenance
