leaking fuel tank on TDV6 DISCO 3
Just been down to the garage and filled the tank up - TO THE NECK!! Before I got back to the car after paying, fuel leak on floor of garage was 2ft square.
Have put vehicle on the lift and can see fuel spil all along the top of the tank. HVAfter about 15 minutes, the leaks stopped dripping but as tank is full, have not yet worked out how to drain to them remove tank. Has anyone had leaking tanks etc ( especially the off road DISCO 3 owners who may have used tank guard as a belly plate)
Need answers quick - especially at £1.10.9 a litre.

Landrover will never have heard of the problem sir. Probably rodent damage sir. If you ask they will have changed the tanks of a couple of D3's(and i mean only D3's no other LR ,you can ring every dealer in the country to hear the same story but LR have never heard of it ) with the same problem and in the exact same place The part that is good news is that you can in fact repair the old tank when you are sick to the back teeth in trying to explain the laws of probability to LR. I think it cost me about £100 or so
we've done a few and the little blighters get the same place everytime, just that little elbow on top the tank.
i did have the fortunate oppurtunity on one ocassion to have a person from LR here when we dropped a tank for this same reason
He came out, had a look at was gobsmacked, i then showed him photos of other tanks we had done
He did go to enginerring when he returned to LR and questioned them but they were actually unaware of the situation
Currently the tanks are unavailable as i have one on order since Mid November, so whether something has filtered through i am unsureTLO has left the building.......

Well that would be all our Christmas's come early if something were to happen! Good for you I did in fact ask my Dealer to make sure he logged it with LR even though he repaired the tank as i hoped it would eventually filter through to the powers that be! May i suggest you do the same if it is repaired at LR .Its a bit late for me but these things get right up my nose as you might have noticed
Rodent(s) ate a little bit more of mine, but on the same elbow. Nick's mob replaced it, on the basis a repair wasn't warrantied* and wasn't that much less than the price of a new tank; the labour being the same. On the plus side, I had it paid (bar excess) by the insurance company (NFU).

Well I finally removed the tank and sure enough an exact mirror image of the pictures above. I am amazed that rodents are members of this forum and all know exactly what part of the elbow to chew!!! We live on a farm with wall to wall cats so how are rodents getting into a car that lives on the yard all day when not driven. This has to be a wind up!!! Still managed to repair with TIGER SEAL and it seems to have done the job.Chris Bowler

Hope you put something distasteful over the remainder of the elbow or they might be back for another nibble.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

This exact same thing happened to my D3 about 2 years ago. I cos me £800. I asked for the tank cos I could believe what I was hearing . The mice chewed my tank inthe exact same place ( on the neck of the pipe ) .
The D3 is a farm vehicle at the end of the day and should have better desin if this does happen surely it should be designed that you have to replace the fuel tank ! Fit for purpose, surely not ???

D3 was not designed as farm vehicle
And i'm sure that the engineers didn't think of adding "Test for rodent attraction" to the test sheets it is a pain that this piece meens a new tank but surely LR cannot be responsible for a rodent eating it..They have made a tank to the best of their ability to be as leak proof as possible which means some parts are bonded inTLO has left the building.......

Hope so
as said in previoucs post had an LR guy with me one day when we had a tank dropped which had it
i took him into the workshop to view and also showed him some photos off this site of others so he was aware it was not just a local thing with us year folk..
He went back to Gaydon and had talks with engineers but it seems now the manufacturer of the D3 tank is no more and LR are desperately working on conversion kits for D4 to D3 tank
iv'e got a site members order for a tank in the mix since November but looks like very soon the retro will be available as kits for Non FBH cars are coming through but cars with FBH is still a few weeks away as special parts have to be manufactured
I have not yet seen a D4 tank to check but it would make sense that different supplier means different material mixes for componentsTLO has left the building.......

It just needs a metal piece over the neck of the pipe to stop the rubber underneath being chewed. Would be a very cheap design change for LR and would avoid so many people having a massive bill.
