Hey all!
I bought my Discovery 3 a few weeks ago and managed to find this great community to help me maintenance and mod my vehicle in the future. This thread is all about my journey, so lets start off by showing the car.
Future plans:
-upgrade multimedia system / adding ipad?
-facelift
-dinitrol rust treatment to chassis

Old compressor was very noisy and couldnt get the car up anymore. It was only hold by a one rusty bolt at the moment i was disconnecting it
One of the old air pipes seems to be leaking... luckily i did order a pipe fitting kit so i just cut the old pipe further and used a pipe connector to fix this.
compressor bracket was broken, must have been hit a rock or something by previous owner. Side comparison with a new bracket.
new parts waiting to be installed.
new compressor installed, yes it is a hitachi! plug and play.
Bonnet didn't want to stay up anymore so i also replaced those gas struts holding the bonnet. Old strut (upper) versus a new strut (lower).

Am interested to know what spotlights you have on the front and how are they mounted/what brackets you’ve used?

Previous owner installed those spotlights on the front.. they came with the car when i bought it.
Seems like the brackets are just screwed through the bumber. They has a Hella brand relay box, mounted on the side of the engine bay next to air filter.
I took a quick look on them and found some info regarding to those lights:

Couldn't find any model info from the lights themselves, but i did some google searches and i found a model that is very close to the model that is installed in my vehicle. Its called Alpha 225. I measured the spotlight of my car and got 225mm (diameter).

Today i changed the pollen filter (cabin filter) + air filter. Just basic maintenance before moving to oil changes including motor + transmission fluid with flushing (filo method)
Didn't find anything special this time, but mainly did it because i couldn't find any info on when they were last time changed so this helps me to schedule my future maintenances more precisely... and you know.. getting know ur car by step by step is the most important thing here.

Did transmission flush (Filo method) last weekend and was positively suprised it took away all the juddering and rough gear changes... at least for now.
However, will do it again after few months of driving and gonna replace the transmission filter at the same time.
This time i got 4.2L of old oil out, pumped same amount of new oil back in with one tube of Dr.Tranny. Transmission works alot smoother now, even i only changed the half of the full capacity.
Here's som photos from the process:
used 8mm clear plastic pipe to connect garden pump to the outlet pipe. (tighten hard, u dont want them to start leaking..)
getting 4,2L of old oil out, did run the engine about 30-60sec. Did not count it, there was too much tension in the air. (If u use a garden pump... take off the pressure valve from it before u continue, otherwise things will get messy!)
Ravenol 6HP transmission oil
Pumping 4.2L of new oil back with a garden pump +added one tube of Dr.Tranny (dont forget this if u got juddering or rough gear changes)
Got some time left so i tried to clear faults from the webasto heater. It hasnt fired up in the last few weeks and they have been the coldest in here Finland so i really wanted to get it working. How is it they always broke when u need em?
So i ordered a diagnostic loom + usb to obd2 adapter from the shop and after messing with cables and webasto software i was able to clear all the faults from the heater and get it back to work. Yeey! As the temperature drops -20C, u really want it works.
Next up, egr blanking.

Updates!
Had a big battle with the instrument cluster a few months back. First it started to go blank while i was driving on the highway and later on when it got worse, ecu thought that i was running out of the fuel cause of the non working cluster so it started to force shut down engine to "prevent" any damage....
So, took it to a cluster repair company.. took it actually 2 times...but they couldn't fix it. Luckily found a cheap cluster (150e) from a 2005 disco with almost the same odometer readings and replaced the original one using the GAP fast lane service. Now cluster working like a charm!
More problems ahead after a few months had passed by..
Car started to run roughly on start ups, for a 30sec or more.. then all ok when engine gets warmer..
While driving on the road it have started to cut the engine off and it wont start before battery is charged fully... have a new exide battery replaced 5 months ago so im thinking it might be the altenator..
Been playing with the car lately and i have found out that the fuel pump doesnt make any sound when the car key is turned on if i haven't charged the battery fully after it has cut out the engine while driving.. when it cut the engine off the voltage on the battery has dropped to under 11,6V. So, charging the battery full (12.6-13.5V charger reading) and putting it back makes the fuel pump sing again and car starts fine... till the next cut out..
Bought a new Denso altenator and will change it in this coming weekend. Will also clean MAF sensor and the throttle body. I think i should measure the low pressure fuel pump too, but it works when the battery is fully charged.. so i might change the fuel pump if the altenator doesnt do miracles. Really need the car working
Does anybody know, how litte does the battery voltage have to drop down that the low pressure fuel pump stops working? I think we speak under 1V drop?

Just replaced the altenator and cleaned the MAF/MAP sensors. Car started straight away with the fully charged battery. No rough idle at the moment.. voltage running around 14.4-14.7V (iid tool readings).
Next few days will show has the problem been solved by replacing the altenator.
Will keep eye on the voltage and the fuel pressure.

Still had engine cut outs when hard acceleration was done on uphills.
So.. next job was to check the fuel lines and replace the in tank fuel pump. I changed the fuel filter around 5 months ago so it wasn't the 1st suspect.
I Found this cheap fuel pump, manufactured in germany from ebay pricing around 60e.
I set the car suspension to offroad height, jack it up to get little more room to work and put jack stands on the place. Removed the heatshield, transmission cover and fuel lines around the tank.
Before u drop it down, make sure that the electric connector is removed from the fuel pump assembly and the fuel lines are free to move.
Clean the top with some spray cleaner before opening to prevent any dirt entering in to the tank.
Fuel pump filter. Cleaned it with a carbon spray cleaner.
Fuel pump assembly.
Replaced only the fuel pump, they had different pump cable connectors but i switched the connector plug from the old pump and fit it to the new pump.
Put everything back together and measured the pressure from the schrader valve. Pressure went from 4psi (with the old pump) to 5.5psi (new pump) (measured with a diy gauge:)..
Seems to run fine now, will measure pressure again when i get more accurate fuel pump tester.Land Rover Discovery 3 2006 HSE 2.7 Zermatt Silver

So, got rid of the extra lights on the front and decided to "facelift" my disco by making a custom grille with a dremel and bit of a imagination.

It's good to see a different approach to the front grill and surprising what you can do with a bit of imagination Retro fitted
Heated seats. heated screen, F&R Parking sensors, auto wipers, auto lights, full leather. front fogs, D4 heated steering wheel, airbag and switches, Brembo RRS 4 pots and discs, Dave's aftermarket sat nav install, Aftermarket head unit, Rear parking cam, Powerful UK grill replacement, De-tangoed and painted head lights.
