Rust appearing on a 14 year old vehicle isn't uncommon especially if it has been unsealed and subject to a lot of road salt etc. Similarly, bushes will wear on a such heavy vehicle quite readily, yes - if these are the originals then it's completely reasonable they would need changing.

Thanks I think the problem with the rust is there used to be a side step and that’s been removed prior to me buying, the rust is where the brackets would have been. I wonder if just getting a new plastic seal along it would pass?

Better to get the sills sorted properly or you're storing up issues for the future. A good indy will be able to do the job or know of a decent body shop which will do the work. I had mine done a year or so ago and it cost around £500 for both sides to be done.

I'm currently swithering about keeping the D4 - it's had an expensive repair bill. SWMBO doesn't like the side steps as they're damaged (flaky paint and a big scrape) so I'm looking to get tree/rock sliders to replace them if we keep the car. On the plus side, SWMBO was clearing stuff out and found three bottles of whisky which would sell for around £1k all in Smile

As a side note, you might consider changing your username to something other than your personal email address (I assume). Thumbs Up

Suppose the question is whether you want it safe of just to pass? Appreciate its a separate chassis body but still, I would rather get it sorted properly. Thumbs Up

It's not the fact they saw rust, it's that it's rusty on a bodypart your seatbelts attach to. Don't skimp on this.

If the rear upper arms are needing replaced then the car will feel like the back end isn't connected, the difference will be very surprising once you get them done ! As fr rusty sills... most definitely get them done properly (as others have said) and don't ever put side steps back on !

You might think that from afar…. I can assure you its rampant all over North America.
And then people blame the weather conditions or other drivers for their mishap as opposed to the mismanaged state of their vehicle… its ridiculous.
