On my first MOT after blanking the EGR's 3 years ago the tester commented the exhaust readings where the lowest on any vehicle he had tested but yet we still pay excessive amounts of road tax because emissions are high I just don't understand it.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi
The road tax bracket is based on other emmision gases and not the smoke particulate which is all that the MOT checks. Theoretically blanking the EGR valves should raise the level of emmisions for the other gases but these are not tested during the MOT.
I read somewhere on this board that a LR dealer told a D3 owner that blanking the EGR valves would make it fail its emmisions test!!!! What a load of '' rubbish.
Does a blanked D3 still meet the Euro 3 (or 4) standard? I don't know and I don't really care!
Cheers

Mine was the same as Mikey's with the EGR's removed
I was a bit when I took it in but on reading the pass paperwork was very pleasantly surprised. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

Well just passed my MOT an hour ago.
EGR's blanked but pipes refitted.
Below are my smoke test results over the last few years same garage, same tester, same test machine.
2015 0.32
2016 0.96
2017 1.48
2018 0.62
It is a 2005 D3 and these days only does about 3000 miles/year and is currently at 85000 miles.
I was getting a little concerned about the figures going up year on year so this year before MOT I filled her up with BP's "Ultimate Diesel" instead of the usual "Morrisons" supermarket diesel.
Look how the figures have dropped!
Comments?
