Nasty Oil Leak - front crank seal?
Hi chaps,
Went to fuel the Disco earlier today and when walking back to the car on the forecourt I saw a puddle of oil under the car
Never thought would be from my car until I saw it dripping
Fortunately I'd only covered 2 miles from home and was no oil on the driveway so must have just happened and caught it before I did any proper damage.
My only thinking at that time to keep me from crying was there was no prior loss of power.
So I bought some monstrously expensive oil from the fuel station, topped level up and limped back home.
On closer inspection, there was oil everywhere but fortunately no hole in the engine. PHEW!
I've narrowed it down to the front crank seal as when I turn engine on oil comes out of this (picture below) plastic stubby pipe at front of engine behind the crank pulley.
Is my theory likely to be correct, assuming this pipe is some kind of drain for oil collecting behind the crank pulley?
Car's done 102k and both crank seal was changed at 92k in 2017 when it had a new oil pump and cam belt.

Another reason why I did around with the oil pump replacement
Seal needs to be specially set, about 1mm in from edge I think?
A specialist tool should be used.
Was the pump changed by a professional or weekend Wally?

Could also be the Allen bolt in the top of pump, I seem to remember reading in here there was a service bulletin about it,
Had the same on mine running out of the hole, on stripping the seal was dry and it was pumping out of said bolt, oil pump and belts changed 15k previous by a local indie, you can remove and seal it, I opted for a new pump as they had fitted an unbranded pump

Thanks for the replies.
Pump and crank seal were replaced at the same time in November 2017 by KMOTORS who seem specialists judging by their website.. and going by being specialists I’d assume they’d have the correct setting tool
All genuine parts used too (going by invoice)... will have a look at the bolt when it’s all apart

So progress..
Got the belt cover off and turned the engine over.. oil is coming from underneath the crank pulley so must be the crank seal.. mental as it's gone after being done by a specialist company using a genuine seal. Anyway, now need to figure out how to get the pulley off to confirm. Anyone got a locking tool I can borrow for some beers??
Oil pooling out from here..

I had the same after having the pump done by an Indy using genuine parts, they took it back in and redid the job for nothing as the parts are guaranteed for 2 years.
They said there was a faulty batch of seals

Yeah but land rover genuine parts are guaranteed for 2 years

Nice although I'd be impressed if Land Rover guaranteed a part which wasn't fitted at Land Rover by Land Rover technicians?

On my d2, I had the gearbox, oil cooler and pipes replaced by my Indy. They bought the pipes from the local LR main dealer and fitted them.
After a few weeks, one of the pipes popped again and I rang the Indy to get them to change under warranty. They told me to go to the main dealer to get it done and I thought I was being fobbed off..
However, I booked in with the main dealer and they replaced both pipes free of charge, and even valeted the car..
So it does happen.

I don't like to be a party popper, but please consider motorcyclists when you decide to limp your car home with an oil leak. It can easily cost somebody their life.

Excellent, then you will have appreciated the danger and I have nothing to worry about.
It's just that if it was dripping from under the car as you describe, then it could well be out as you drive and more than one person might not consider that an issue and try to drive it home.
But as you say, your a motorcyclist so understand the risks.
