Does this look like that would go anywhere?
Found it at the bottom of the front console. I don’t think of any place that would have such a spring. But I can’t think of how this would have gotten there either if this was not a part of the truck either.
Thoughts?
Could it be part of the A/C vent setup (and explain my lack of cold air beyond the left blender motor/actuator?
Is this the spring from the pop out ash tray?? Mine broke and the ash tray kept popping out. There was a spring like this on the bottom.

More progress?
Ok… so I started throwing parts at the problem but did not get anywhere.
Since the brain is the ATC (automatic temperature control), I got a second hand used one off eBay ($25 USD….) and replace it. Same issue/behavior.
It’s been a few weeks now (at least two?) since the A/C garage check/recharge. So unless they messed up big time (called them up twice inquiring!), the system is charged with the appropriate amount of gas.
I suspected a temp sensor issue. Looked for both sensors (inside cab temp and front evap temp), but can’t see/find either! :/
Today, I ran a test:
- a/c to max cold on both sides, rear on auto
- recorded screen showing IID Tool output.
Here is what I noticed:
- pressure “at rest” is in the 90-100 psi
- temps reported by IID are about 5/6 C degrees off (temp today outside it about 21, inside car 23-24)
- when I enable A/C (ie press the “eco” button):
-> A/C pressure drops to 30psi
-> rear evap temp drops dramatically (ie cooling is happening), then rise back
-> front evap temp does not change much.
What are your throughts?

Ok… so now I have a “low pressure” code. So I’m convinced that the issue I had (not very cool on passenger/right side). I suspect/hope the garage gave it a low charge.
In the meantime, I need to look for that leak before I do anything else.

Could it be low pressure = dying/dead A/C compressor?
Today, I spent more time looking at the inside vent/flaps, swapped all the stepper motors and they looked ok.
So I decided to add gas to the system since it was “low”. I bought a A/C gauge so that I could monitor the high pressure side (only had a low pressure gauge).
Low side was a little low, but not too low. I added gas and the high pressure reach 125psi and the pressure relief valve opened up (and there was additional noise? Some squeaking? Kinda bearing noise?). But according to my standard A/C chart, the pressure should have been twice this. So at the moment, I’m thinking the A/C compressor (or pressure relief valve) needs refurbishing or replacement.
After the valve stopped, pressure was at 90psi.

Are you certain there's enough gas in the system? The fact that it partially came to life after you added gas would seem to suggest there's not!
Hopefully your compressor is OK, especially if it's anything like changing one on the TDV6. A real fun job That!
Sqeeky/sqeely/piggy noises not a great sign though!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Slightly different air con problem - LR3 2005 HSE
Hi - air-con rotary switch is either off or full. Works so isn't fuse or electrics. Do I need to replace the rotary switch on the control panel, which probably means swapping our the control panel?

Do the orange lights, light up in stages, (when knob turned)? If yes, its probably the fan speed controller, in a duct, near the fan.

Still working on that….
As I swapped all steppers by second hand, what I did not realize is that they are all coded for a specific location -but- they all have the same part number.
So…. I know I placed the stepper that goes to the right side blend door in place of the face/feet door…. While I just discovered this, those two will be easy to identify since the temp switch will make them move.
Now I need to figure out the other two (defrost/windshield and face/feet door).
