New AMK Compressor: C1A36-01 (6C) Exhaust valve fault

Any advice/suggestions gratefully received.

Last Friday the following work was carried out to cure a persistent air leaking issue with the suspension:

    Fitted new AMK compressor
Replaced all three valve blocks with new ones
    Replaced the air reservoir
Fitted the new relay and flashed the CCF to update for the AMK compressor

Ran the vehicle around town on Monday for 12 miles or so without drama. Left it stood for 5 minutes with engine running while I did the recycling and on return the yellow suspension warning light was on. Cycled the ignition and it went off. Later that day it came on as soon as the ignition self-test completed and it does this every time now.

Have read the codes and got this:

    Body Control

B1B70-81 (28) Local interconnection network bus circuit 2 - Bus signal/message failure - invalid serial data received
U0155-87 (28) Lost communication with instrument cluster control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
    Suspension

C1A36-01 (6C) Exhaust valve - General failure information - general electrical failure
    Vehicle Dynamic

U0155-87 (08) Lost communication with instrument cluster control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
U0132-87 (08) Lost communication with ride level control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message

Does anybody have any clues to the suspension fault, given this is a brand new AMK compressor? Is the compressor at fault?

On Saturday I did replace a blown reversing light bulb. Given the reports on here about bulb related issues, I intend to replace the reversing bulbs with genuine LR ones (as well as the four braking light ones) just to eliminate that as a possible cause.

The only other stab in the dark was that while the vehicle was stood I received a phone call over Bluetooth, which I did not answer. No idea if this has possibly created an electrical gremlin.

Cheers,
Andrew

When you say flashed the CCF, do you mean you flashed the Ride Level Module?

That is exactly what you can get when you fit an AMK and don't update the software. Wink

I have had a faulty AMK in the past.

Caused a whole load of grief, trial and error and swapping parts, and the compressor was discounted every time as it was brand new Evil or Very Mad

But the old compressor was Censored anyway...

Don't have access to the vehicle at present to confirm but (from the IID Tool manual) what I think I did was to update the RLM suspension ECU with the AMK option (I had to choose between Hitachi and AMK). I presume "RLM" is Ride Level Module so this is the same thing?

Maybe another action I should take is to repeat the RLM flashing, just in case.

Thanks for that, DM. Good to know they are not infallible. Given I have also replaced the valves and air reservoir it might be a bit easier to pin down a compressor fault as the cause.

I think I will do this next and see if that helps:

1. Reflash the ECU.
2. Replace all the rear bulbs.

Ironically, it turns out the original suspension fault was likely to be the compressor valve blocks leaking. The Hitachi compressor was fully refurbished as part of earlier diagnostics so will be put up for sale.

Still no joy

Went to a local Independent Garage today and tried the following:

1. Re-flashed the RLM Suspension ECU with AMK software update using IID tool.
2. Re-flashed using an Autologic tool.
3. Re-flashed the RLM Suspension ECU with Hitachi software update using IID tool.

Still no joy. After each step the suspension fault light came on and the "Exhaust valve" fault will not clear. The fault light appears immediately the ignition is turned on (a "hard" fault?).

Any ideas anyone?

Faulty compressor...

It may be worth checking the wiring to the exhaust valve, but I have been down this exact route not long ago...

Thanks DM. Just hope there is no grief with supplier's parts guarantee.

Update and solved

Bought another new compressor. Garage plugged it in but same fault Big Cry

On further investigation of the loom, the culprit was eventually found as a broken wire at the multiplug at the rear of the front nearside wheel arch. With that repaired the fault has cleared Thumbs Up

Thanks again for the responses on here. Special mention is also needed for the excellent service from Brad Lynham at Yeovil Land Rover and for Lee at Prestige Sheffield Ltd, a local Jaguar Land Rover Specialist http://www.sheffieldprestige.co.uk
