I'd check that, as its classed IFAIK as a commercial, I have just had two Toyota pickup trucks stopped for speeding "70" on a dual carriageway

Were they 2 or 4 wheel drive?
4 wheel drive are classed differently to the 2 wheel drive ones.
Transits and Merc Sprinters etc are 60 mph as they are vans as are 2 wheel drive pick ups but 4 wheel drive double cabs and utility Land Rovers are in a different class and can do 70 mph
I read all this in Honest John in the Saturday Telegraph motoring section.

Not so!
Despite my D3 SE being converted from new to being a 'van', the V5 calls it a car, the road tax is as per anybody elses D3, and even my commercial insurance has it classed as a 'modified car'. Ths was primarilly due to the V5 classification and also because the insurers couldn't find a D3 van on their system (at that time).
So, although I have a D3 van, I can drive at 70mph in more comfort than any LRSV commercial and all it costs me is the slightly higher road tax The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Yup! At least a year before LR made one. However, if I was looking for a van today, I would still ask Lakeland to produce it for the above reasons. So long as the VAT man is happy to call it a 'van' I'm happy The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

To qualify for VAT reclaim. They weren't interested in seeing the V5. They have a (rigidly) set criteria for converted vehicles and VAT reclaim. No rear seats (hidden or otherwise). Flat loading bay. 100% tint from behind the (front) side windows. Rear belts removed and shear bolts (or welds) on the old rear seat mountings etc. Basically, it musn't be easy to convert back to a car in ten minutes. Lakelend already have a letter of comfort from HMC&E in respect of their 'conversions'. I also understand that LLR cannot provide 'van' purchasers with the removed seat items either
