I tried some boiled linseed oil on one of the rear mudflaps (following some recommendations on the forum) and it has stayed black through all of the heavy rain, works very well. Need to wear some gloves when doing it though.

Do you have any O.S maps? Happy to point out some lanes in the area.

Spent an hour or two today changing out the engine sump as it had started to weep oil from around the temperature sensor, obviously had a service at the same time with some Mannol oil at a bargain price from Ebay and a MAHL filter. Surprisingly quick job

Your lights are D3 and de-tango’d and I was considering that or the powerfuluk kit (stickers) with the tick to look D4 esque. In the end I went halfway and put the black on the side and top of the lights but not the bottom tick/curved stripe on. Still may do that. You can see the black tape on the pic.
I felt the grill looked out of sorts initially as mine has grey/black and the black didn’t work. Then I changed to clear side indicators and it’s seems to fit better.
I’ve opted for some rear blinds for the minute to see whether tinted will look ok - as I can remove those and may also look at black wheels as yours look great.
I’m considering painting the black or maybe the whole grill to match the car. Undecided at the moment. Just enjoying be back in a Discovery at the moment.

Fuel cradle
Right a slight update
Last MOT the disco had an advisory due to having a gaping hole in the rusted old fuel cradle. I managed to source a solid replacement from Ebay for £99 with some surface rust but nothing structural compared to the old one.
So this is the Ebay special as it was delivered
I gave it a going over with a sander, wire wheel brush attachment before giving it a good clean with elbow grease cleaner
I then decided to use some different products I had lying around. First i gave two coats of Hammerite stone chip shield. I have used this in the past and found it to be fantastic. The best application i had was on my L322 on the rear backbox, brought it up a treat and lasted really wheel even with the extreme temps. Its a thick slightly rubberised paint that hold up well and can be overpainted.
After this i took a bit of a gamble using some Silverhook underseal that Ive had for a fair while. This is a totally different product and feels more sticky and gloss black. its described as being an excellent underseal and i thought why the hell not, whats the worst that can happen!
These are the two products, big tin is about £8 on amazon prime and the underseal is about £5 from tool station.
once fully dry ill get it replaced on the car.

I should probably update this thread since its been over two years since my last post. In summary I still have the disco and *touch wood* its still going strong. It has outlasted two Range Rovers I bought after it. I ended up getting frustrated with the manual gearbox and missed by old Range Rover so bought a 2010 4.4 TDV8 L322. Thoroughly enjoyed that car and the disco pretty much took a back seat for a while. I then stupidly bought a similar car however in Overfinch form which was amazing, but truthfully not my cup of tea. far too showy and flashy for a simple man like me. So both of those ended up sold and I retired back to having the humble discovery at my disposal.
It certainly has cost me a lot to keep it on the road over the past two years and I have made a few changes on the way.
Maintenance wise I've had to do the below
- drivers side wheel bearing
- new battery
- new alternator
- wheel speed sensors x2
- front caliper
- bootlid actuator
- handbrake module rebuilt with new shoes, backing plates and cables
- another front caliper
- heater control module
- rear nearside wheel bearing
- tensioner and aux belt
- full service
- rear cross member replacement
- sills repaired
- rear offside hub bush
but I also made some modifications in the form of
- LED reverse lights
- windows tinted
- 30mm spacers
- LED High beam (phenomenal)
- Rhino roof bars
- 20" L322 wheels and Radar Renegade AT5 tyres
- Mantec RAI
- lanoguard treatment underneath
So it looks a little bit different now to what it once did. The biggest visual changes being the overall larger wheels. I went from 255/55/19 tyres to 255/55/20 so overall the wheels are quite a lot bigger than standard. I wanted an easier way to achieve a better stance and slight lift without having to go for alternative options. I don't do severe off roading but just wanted that slight extra capability. These along with the rhino bars and RAI have certainly beefed it up a bit. For good or for worse, you decide.
At the moment I think it needs some new pads as I have the red brake warning light on the dash, this will be investigated once the snow and rubbish weather has subsided.
