Oil leak front passenger side?

So, adding to the catalogue of things, the car needed two new front tyres so had the tracking checked at the same time.

Saw oil on something.

Any idea where it might be from?

Thanks

Andy

Possibly oil from the turbo. Oil comes in the top of the turbo under pressure and then returns via a drain tube back in to the sump stiffener. If you take the belly plate off you would see oil dripping down steel return pipe w/ corrugations in it on the pipe bend. If there is no oil around the turbo itself then it will be the lower (return) tube. You can get to these (torx) screws ok and give them a tweak.

If there is oil on the turbo then it’s likely to be the top ones ... I have never tried to get at these ... gotta be tight to get at.

Otherwise it could be simply oil filter housing and oil dripping down the back of the vee. If the filter has been changed recently then this might be it ... but would expect some oil on d/side. If refitting make sure to smear oil on rubber seal on the surface in contact with engine.

Are you sure it’s oil and not diesel? Could be from injectior return pipe if it is.

Pete.

Thanks both for taking the time.

Pretty sure it’s oil, and it could fit with the turbo actuator arm being sticky.

When I cleaned it down I saw a lot of black oil like debris coating a lot of stuff, so .....

.... hoping it can wait until summer and after the MOT.

Have you taken the metal engine cover underneath off?.

My sump plug started to leak and the oil sat on the top of the cover-it held quite a lot.

When I drove the wind blew it off the cover all over the place thought I had a mass oil leak somewhere.

Nope.

Only just notic3d thisntoday whilst the car was on a lift having the tracking checked.

It’s not noticeably loosing oil, and nothing on the driveway.

I’ve got concerns about the turbo, but it may be a loose or split hose, but until thi gs get warmer my desire for solving this is limited.

In the meantime, any pointers on where to look to try and drill down on this quickly are mot gratefully received.
