oil volume

I have tried to get a better view of the oilconsumption in my D4 TDV6 3.0l MY2011.
To do so I need to know how much oil there is in the motor.
As there is no dip stick I have to rely on the measure on the instrument cluster and IID.
The measurement on the instrument cluster can be seen when the car has been resting for 10 minutes with the engine off.
To get a live value I have looked with my IID. Tried to compare with the instrument cluster showing full but it is very difficult. The IID shows 5ltrs in idle and when revving it goes up to 5,5 ltrs. Full should be 6,0 ltrs.

The live value in mtrs I do not understand. Also changes with rev.

Now I am confused.

Please give me some advice.

I think full should be 5.9l.

How do you expect it to read accurately when its circulating around the engine?

Hi rob,

I have no idea how IID is calculating.

IID will not give a measurement when the engine is off.

Really miss an old fashioned dip stick.

Im fairly sure it does. Thats how i measure mine after an oil change. it measures the depth in the sump in m and gives a volume in litres

Not that it helps but my IID doesn’t make any sense either. The photo shows the readings after I did my 1st oil change, following the workshop procedure. I sucked out just under 6ltrs and added 5.9ltrs (The oil pack I use is 6ltrs so definitely didn’t overfill). I don’t think the calculated value is very accurate, no idea what unit (m) the measured value is either.

Some new findings.

IID measures when ignition on and engine off.
Measure is 5,5 ltrs

In car display. Standard height. 1 marking down from max. Access height. max. Car not moved or started between measurements.

Explain this if you can???

Oil volume from display immediately after running engine

To check oil level immediately after running engine; Pop the bonnet then goto menu and select service then oil level, it will show not available. Now press cruise control cancel twice and oil level will display. Remember there will be some oil left in the top of the engine so don't add oil immediately unless very low, and even then only add half the amount suggested to be sure not to overfill. Recheck oil as soon as possible, ideally before continuing driving.
This quick check is intended to be more for reassurance re oil presence than a confirmation to carry on driving.
