My 2008 Disco 3 HSE has parking proximity warning, but to be honest it just makes random noises (both front and reverse) even if there is nothing there. There is a simple fix. As soon as you start the vehicle, just press the switch to turn off the park assist entirely. At least you don't have the stupid random peep peeping noises as you move the vehicle.

Basically, I don't want to spent £££££££s at the dealer fixing something that will just break again a few days later because the parts are such poor quality. So the solution is just operate as if the car does not have park assist.

parking sensor likes a little pause before working

I put my disco into reverse gear...wait a couple of seconds until it wakes up and beeps once and then it works fine!
It has been like this from new, and as I am usually reversing a trailer and have it switched off it doesn't really bother me!
It may even have taught me patience over the years...my wife hopes!

Was a bit hit/miss for it working yesterday but today it's not working at all.

How loud is the clicking noise they make, going to try and fault find it tonight.
Also, is it a bumper off job to get at the sensors?

Strange update, sensors still intermittent. But I have found if I start and it says sensors not working. I switch it off and restart it, the system works. Confused

This works 8/10 times. I have no idea why it works. I'm putting it down to the cars character.

Rear Parking Sensors

Had car from new. First 18 months ok. Then intermittent rear problems. Associated with light rain. Sometimes constant beep on engaging. warranty checks many times "revealed" nothing. Dealer washes car after service or repair. Sensors u/s after. Fed up so after warranty no more dealer washes. Check connections under car. Last year work perfectly even during and after summer flooding and wading this year. The moral is..... these things work perfectly well even during and after monsoon-like conditions. Don't let dealers tell you that they may be affected by washing car, wet conditions etc. They are too lazy to check problems!! Don't even ask me about failing batteries and remotes!!! DIY is best.

If you are convinced that its the PDC control box I have a spare you can try using. Mail me

Any chance you can PM me the details of the place in Leeds?

Owned my Discovery 05 HSE for about a month and yesterday it started making this noise., so looking for a garage I can trust.

Thanks

Hi all,

Today I took my 2005 Disco 3 in a local vehicle trim specialist to have a leather panel on drivers front seat repaired. The front seat was removed to complete the repair.
When I picked the vehicle the dash display stated 'front drivers parking aid inactive' and I now have no parking sensors front or rear. When I pressed the dash button I get a long tone and the orange led flashes.
I returned the vehicle and trimmers stated nothing they had done would cause this problem. They also spoke with the local dealer who also stated the seat removal should not cause any problems with the parking sensors.
My concern is that the removal/refitting procedure of the front drivers seat has somehow effected/damaged the wiring loom underneath. I understand the parking aid module is positioned on the C post. Therefore the wiring loom for the front sensors must travel past the front seat at some point.
This is simply too much of a coincidence. The re-trimmers are having the vehicle back tomorrow to have a look, but if they cannot find a problem with their workmanship then they have suggested one of the sensors maybe faulty and the vehicle will need to go to a dealer for fault diagnosis.
If anyone can shed a light on exactly what wiring travels under or next to the drivers seat I will be grateful.

Cheers

Is it a big job to get to the PDC control box?

My problem is intermittent however it almost always works when I first get in the car (ie. when I first get in in the morning to drive to work) and almost always doesn't work when I've driven the car (ie. when I arrive at work)

Any suggestions?

button dash flashing and no sensors

I maybe having a blonde moment but Im hoping with all the joys we have with parking sensors someone may have come across this issue.

Ive a manual 05 d3 when i got i had a fault on the parking sensors at rear only two worked so i had them replaced and it turned out to be a worn wire in bumper but whilst bumper off did the sensors too.

all was good now i dont have them working at all.

the button on dash flashes but no tones etc.

Ive a new pup who got loose from crate and went exploring the car not sure if me or him have inadvertently pressed something or I'm going to have to delve further?

Thanks in advance.
 A complete newbie.

The rear park sensors require the handbrake to be applied first, select reverse in manual then disengage h/b, otherwise the system does not work! Hence, I crumpled my bumper relying upon the warning beeps!
LR dealer had it for a good day before discovering this and reported back to LR

This is not the case with my rear sensors, they work as soon as reverse is engaged, handbrake or not.

Well, I say 'work'....They're pretty unreliable so I use the reverse camera instead!

Fault codes will tell which sensor is not working or you can move in front of each and listen for the click. If one is not clicking the fault could be either the sensor or the wiring.

Hoping someone can help...

I've got a problem with the front PDC, the button flashes at me and the message in the dash says front parking aid inactive. This knocks out the rear ones, bit of a pain!

So i've listened to the rears and i can hear them clicking, some noisier than others. I can't hear any of the front ones clicking!

I've checked the fuse (fuse 35, 5 amp) under the glove box and that seems fine.

What should my next move be??? thanks Thumbs Up

I've been investigating my pdc not working and this is what iid is telling me. Do I just replace those sensors or move the working sensors to their positions to rule wiring out?
