Pics of serious winch action

Yup, that's Weggie off the Westovers again courtesy of Land Rover Assist. This time it's the starter motor solenoid that's failed. Naturally it happened at an inconvenient moment and cost me the best part of a day's work and money. Evil or Very Mad

Really, really REALLY starting to regret buying this car. Geting close to describing it as an unreliable heap of Censored I can understand why Andrew started looking at alternatives after the warranty issue with the Blue Pearl.[/img]

I had a new starter motor little while ago, luckily the dealers tech boss accepted that it was about to die rather than wait til I ended up stuck somewhere. She's not missed a beat since (apart from one speaker packing up or becoming disconected). If I listed all the faults on Mrs DSL's D3 I'd seriously question my sanity but having just done 500 miles from 4am today, was glad it was in the D3. Have strength NoDo$h, there is a reason we put up with these things! The demonic grin says all!

First thing I noticed was the rack, but did not dare ask under the circumstances!
Looks really good, was thinking of doing the same and I think that has convinced me.... Has it cut down
on the wind noise at all or is it still crap!

Nah, wind noise is still as grim as ever. I'll be experimenting with some rubber (matron!) to make a lip around the bottom (oh I say!) of the front section. I think AndrewS had some success doing this. I also want to fabricate a replacement rear rail to go where the rear "spoiler" rail used to sit and part-deck it with chequerplate but that will have to wait until I have more time and get the chuffin' car back Rolling Eyes .

You need to have a look at my rack Wink Its cut down like yours, and has a custom made piece across the back to fill the gap, and is plated with alloy Wink

It will be fitted for trip to Billing next week if your there. Agree wind noise and fuel consumption same with or without extra top bits.

Sorry about your car ND, keep the faith. Was there any symptoms before failure, or was it a case of first it works then it doesn't?

Gareth, not at Billing I'm afraid, but your experience means at least I don't need to rush to mod the rack!

As for advance symptoms, there have been a couple in instances this last week when the starter hasn't done anything when the key was turned. I had put this down to a poor contact on the gearbox selector so knocked it into drive and back to park and it started each time, but it appears this was just a coincidence and that playing with my knob was not what got the electricity flowing. Shocked
