My Prospeed Roof Rack and sliders

Lots of information on here that really praises both the company and the product so this week I have ordered my rack with extras and my sliders with steps.

Trying hard to persuade Prospeed to do me a deal and leave the silly looking ladder off as I have a curvy Bearmach but if they don't then it'll be up for sale somewhere close by soon. Bought a few extras for antennae, lamps, roof boxes and so on. Really tempted to buy the light bar, but actually, I rarely need forward facing light so I've left that off for the time being. I've also seen some tidy looking homebrew mods to the front panel of the rack to accommodate lights so something to consider in the future. Need to provision a cable run for power and RF but immediate need is to fit the thing in time for the family holiday in Och Aye the Noo Land - again, I'm sure there will be threads about running these cables to the roof. Guessing ingress somewhere around the A-pillar. Also ordered the security bolts and I'm pleased to say that despite have a well-kitted set of security bit drivers, I haven't actually got this one...

Sliders have step inserts for some of the older members in my family - they miss the OEM steps but I bent those on my first pay and play to the point I couldn't open the door... Laughing I do need to treat the sills before I fit these so I'll be scouring for advice on that shortly! Be good to cover up the underneath as of course I threw the trim away when I took the OEM steps off as it had holes in it. Worried about those threaded inserts as they have been exposed all winter... Shocked

I'll post some pictures once it arrives and I've installed it all...

And I have experienced good customer service thus far from the team over 3 phone calls. Final proof is in delivery and the quality of the finished products.

Sp for my sills I used Buzzweld cavity paint, then cavity wax and then CIO on the sills on the outside - seems to be holding up fine so far

To be honest though sliders are not fit and forget - they need to come off every year or two to check the sills underneath

When I ordered it, the lead time didn't seem so long but now... Crying or Very sad. A certain small boy is also just as impatient as I am!

Early August. Just in time for a week away heading North. I've got the instructions and reviewed some posts here for a sneak preview. Useful to note the front two bolts appear to be a PITA so I'll get some spray in there working ahead of time.

Pics will be forthcoming...

This is a really good point and this purchase forces our hand to look at our '79 Midget too as she needs this sort of protection. I've found a chap near Didcot who will steam clean the underneath - quote was very reasonable. I've decided to go for Dinitrol and will be getting down n dirty shortly. Not sure I can do the whole Landy in one go though but gotta do these sills.

Interesting point about them not being fit and forget. I think the same applies to the sump guard. Took mine off a while ago and could see the rust setting in nicely... Big Cry I think the order is treat the sills. Treat the MG, finish off the Landy. By my reckoning, that'll be ready sometime next Christmas... Whistle

When I ran 2 x RG58 antennae cables and 12v black and red for strobes, I ran it up from the back - the top corner of the upper tailgate gap. The cable will pass quite well through the rear door seal without leaking if done carefully and wasn't subject to any bending or rubbing.

As I had split charge 12v running to the boot anyway, plus the control unit for 2 x ham radios in the boot too (remote head kits running to the front) it worked well for me.

Edit: If you look at this photo, you can see the RG58 running from above the right hand rear light, up along the seal and then up through the gap. Didn't have the red&black cable in at this point but it followed the same route.

Idly drums his fingers on the desk wondering if time and space have changed the universe somewhat since I ordered...this is never 12 weeks... Big Cry

@James: This is an interesting point as I already have some of this ghastly RG58 stuff with a PL259 on the end. It seems to emanate from my GV-IF box or wahtever it's called under the passenger seat. I have run mobile on my handheld (M0RBJ) but I've simply used a mag mount with the cable running out the window. I can't actually find an antenna input on the GV-IF though, I really need to have a play with this thing.

I have bought two mag mounts for the rack and although I came really close to a light bar but didn't, I still want to run power up there for my mag mount lamp. I'll have a closer look when I'm installing the rack...

Got the dinitrol on order...

New email presenting further delay of 3 to 4 weeks. Again, material supplier... Big Cry

Although frustrating, I'm sure Prospeed could sell this stuff all day long so I'll sit back and wait a little longer like a good patient customer... Bow down

Looks like the maiden voyage won't be my trip at the end of the month but that's okay as one person has bailed and we are also leaving doggles at home so I now have the boot back...

Hi,

firstly your a lot more patient than I would be if I'd paid all that money I'd want it there and then!

Secondly, if you do sell the ladder please can you let me know. I have a ladder but it's on the right and I've now got a rear wheel carrier which is also on the right!

Thirdly, I am a bit envious with regards to the sliders as I want some tgat double as steps but can't justify the costs!

Fair point about the dollar but please note I have not yet paid anything. I think this is probably why I'm a little more patient than if I had.

Not sure what to do with the ladder. Wonder if it would fit next to my other one...dual laddering has to be a first on here... Rolling with laughter

I waited 12 weeks for my rack though I wish I’d bought the ladder!! It’s worth waiting for though!!

I also mounted a 5G antenna on mine and set up a wifi network in the cabin. I spend a great deal of time in the middle of the Highlands where signal is weak to non existent and the antenna has made a huge difference.

Is the antenna back compatible? I was thinking about something like that for when we're in Cornwall.

Would be possible for You to measure how thick are the pipes that the roofrack and ladder are made of?
