Question about private plate assignment

Hi all,

Just received a V750 for a private plate Very Happy Has anyone had experience of posting the forms to their DVLA local office. Namely how long does it take? I'm in two minds whether to post it or to schedule in the 70 mile round trip and do it in person.

Cheers,

YTA

Always done it in person, still takes a good couple of weeks to process (unless it's for a brand new unregistered car).

The local DVLA office is always rammed, queue for an hour usually, also seems to be a magnet for the great unwashed of the world Rolling Eyes

Much to my complete surprise, I went into my local DVLA office a couple of months ago with a retention certificate to transfer my number onto my Disco. The whole exercise was completed in under 5 minutes - and there was no one else in. Unbelievable!
I was taught to be cautious.

don't know where groove town is Mr TwistyArms but the Manchester DVLA office is usually very quick - 30 minutes max

Groove town is in South Leicestershire, alas it's not as groovy as it once was Sad

Thanks to all of you for your advice and I will stand and wait in a queue in Northampton (don't really want to post it if it can take 2 weeks).

Thanks again,

YTA

I've always found the offices to be very efficient, and things don't get lost so often as in the post.

Have found that 9am is a god time, esp a Monday, as the car traders have not got their paperwork sorted for the w/end sales. Usually only a couple of peeps in front and lots of staff. Last few times at Cardiff VRO in and out in 10 mins. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I bought a plate at DVLA auction 3 weeks ago, went to DVLA office in Worcester last Monday, took 20 minutes, inc giving me new tax disc. So I left the DVLA with a new tax disc displaying new reg and old plates.

Bloody quick and well worth the round trip!

I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

It can take a couple of weeks if you post. some DVLA offices will do it over the counter but you can queue for hours if busy. My local DVLA office has stopped registering vehicles and they insist you post or visit another office Shocked

They have moved our local Birmingham office - at least you can get parked now.

I used the sheffield office when I discovered, on the morning of day 0 of the Tunisia trip, that I'd lost my V5. Very efficient, I had a temp cert reg doc in 30 minutes Bow down
