| Rear brake disc removal - EPB shoes seized (not actuator) |

For various personal reasons, my early D3 has been off the road for a bit. Just getting it re-fettled.
Rear driver's side EPB shoes appear bound on. EPB unit is unwound. Wheel will not turn. Removing the screw and attempting to 'persuade' the disc with a mallet, dead-blow hammer, etc. has been unsuccessful.
I don't have a garage. So this is being done on a gravel drive in North Yorkshire in winter - lovely.
Rear passenger's side was similar, but simply rocking the car fore-aft with the engine freed it off. Tried the same for this - diff lock, low range, reverse gear - but all it does is drag the locked wheel over the gravel.
Any tips for what I can try? Since I can't rotate the wheel, I can't get to the EPB shoe adjuster. In any case, judging by other evidence, the shoe linings will likely have attempted to fuse with the disc. Attempts to remove the disc result in a certain amount of spring-mediated movement, suggesting that the shoes are stuck to the disc (well, drum, as it were), but are moving on their mounts.
Obviously in the worst case I could (gingerly!) cut the disc off with a grinder and restore what I find. But would prefer another way.

Thank you, yes. Tried some heat and some hammer action. Good point above knocking inwards - presumably there's a point at which a large enough hammer will cause damage to wheel bearings or other parts? Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

another thing to do is remove the caliper.
Then hit the disc from the rear.
Then hit the drum part
repeat

Thank you. Calliper already off, lots of hammering already done in that direction without joy...
The problem is that it isn't a rigid joint - when the disc moves, it does so by the PB shoes moving on their mounts under spring tension. Beyond a certain point, I imagine I'm more likely to damage other parts of the PB than to unlock the shoes from the disc/drum. For now, those springs are simply absorbing the force I use to try to dislodge things.
May need to be more destructive of the disc now, and try stick-welding to create some local heating and distortion  Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

I would guess the shoes have partly delaminated from the friction pads, also as the drums wear internally they create a step that the pads have to get over, are you sure the hand brake has fully released and is not binding? It can when others can't,

Thanks. Have put the EPB into service mode. Have also subsequently pulled the emergency release to make sure.
The passenger side EPB was in a similar state. Rocking the car in drive/reverse, low range, diff lock on, freed that one off.
This wheel is frozen. Will not turn, even under power. Shoes appear to have 'welded' themselves to the drums is the best explanation I have.
Going to try with a lot more heat at the weekend. Failing which, will have to (carefully) cut off the disc, I suspect. Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

If the disc is toast can you drill a hole to access the adjuster?. Centre punch, ideally use cobalt drills and oil, starting small.
Take care when breaking through as contact between the drill and adjuster may not end well.

Have you wound the tensioner in? Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)
