Rear Lower Arms Recommendations

Hi there,

After spending a fair chunk of cash in preparation for an MOT, on various bits and bobs, its failed on rear lower arms (corrosion )

Im hearing lemforder are the better arms, but af sell another set for half the price that come with a warranty.

I am a bit skint tbh, should i have any concerns buying a cheaper set?

Any experiences of different brands?

Nothing wrong with the AF ones…

As you said, one with a warrantee….check
Forum discount is 5% and you use code AF4LRP… lower cost….check

Very Happy

Lemförder are the original arms but without the green oval stamp for extra price. Mr. Green

Having bought a ton from AF, and without knowing (not bothering to look) what the other brand is, I’d still be ok buying it. Note that warranties usually require you shipping whatever that failed first to the seller so it’s probably not very useful if you intend to drive the vehicle in the meantime.

Any other time, id totally spend the extra cash, but its been a financially crippling month! And i need her back on the road.

The cheaper set are like half the price.

I just want to make sure its not common knowledge that they are super un reliable !

Thanks for the input

Additional advice required!

This repair is time sensitive! Need to get back on the road. My local garage don't want to take it on cos it might tie their ramp up if the bolts are seized.

Most other garages are worked up for the next two weeks.

How difficult of a DIY job is this?

I've done the front lower arms myself , admittedly the bolts were not seized.

If i have access to a reciprocating saw, is it just a case of chopping the bolts? I know it will take time but is this the only difference?

Thanks

Got it sorted, with a little advice and support from a member here! Thanks a lot!

Only one bolt on each side of the lowers were seized, or rather the bolt heads were severely corroded.

So this last week, i've managed to change the rear hub, front lower arms, steering arms, rear lower arms.

Did this with limited experience, but a good set of tools (grinder in reserve) and a strong determination!

Mine is a scottish d3 so had a hard early life i think!

Re the lower arms, went for the cheaper ones from af , they did not have a brand on the website as such, but i was pleasantly surprised when meyle ones turned up. Im pretty confident meyle make good stuff. they looked good quality from what i could see, fairly thick gauge metal and good paint job on them. Plus they do come with a 4 year guarantee.

i think other things will break before the arms go!
