how to remove memory module to basic 8 x way drivers seat

Hi

This will be work in progress as I edit and add to this thread

Objective , the removal of the drivers seat memory module and fit an ordinary electric loom and 8 x way seat switch

Bit of history , had standard manual seats , my D3 is a base model , upgraded them to electric , passenger seat was plug and play

Drivers seat had memory ECU fitted , done bypass which allowed the few second power burst and seat to work

Had to disable memory ECU because it was causing a battery drain

Pics below are the current memory loom

Look at parts manual , the following are suppose to be drivers 8 x way looms

These are the looms, don’t know how they differ

All “ YML “ prefix letters

YML500373

500801

500871

500881

500891

In the mean time will carry will cut the memory loom open and trace each wire / colour / plug one by one

Hoping I’ll be able to adapt one of the looms, not worried about colours of the wires

Will update the thread when I make some progress , just hope this may help others later on

Before I touch the memory loom, this is the wiring memory module bypass adaption for the 2 x second power seat burst

I’d be interested to see how you get on with this mod. From memory I don’t think I did as much wire changing as you to get my seat to work with the two second bursts.

Hi

Indeed , I did do the mod to have the 2 x second burst , I’m now removing the memory module so that I can have constant power to the seat

Had to remove it because it was causing a 0.30 ma battery drain

Have now cut open the memory loom , so I can see what colour wires, pin terminals location , etc and how they join with each other

Can see this taking me a while, but find things like this interesting and indeed hope it helps others in the future if instead doing a memory bypass can get constant power to the seat

Well that’s the theory anyway Whistle

Also included the connector I need to each motor

Both White connectors ———-front seat base rise

Black ——- forwards / backwards

Green —- back seat recline

Grey ———- up/ down

Will have to double check those

Memory loom cut open

New non memory 8 x way switch

Also as a side note ref the black wire connector that sits underneath the seats

U can’t plug the wrong colour connector into it, they are all keyed differently

Hi

Wished to update this thread , can remove all the memory module and have a seat with constant power

After going through the loom etc today I now have a fully functioning seat , full 8 x way with no relays or memory module

Will take me a few days to alter some plugs , tidy the loom up properly , etc

Can then write it all out and how it’s done step by step

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thks pete

I do enjoy gluten for punishment Whistle

But must admit do enjoy doing projects like this Thumbs Up

Just soldering up a couple of connectors , will then be done

Can do a write up then, longest bit was tracing all the wires / checking voltages Thumbs Up

At least a normal loom and non memory switch can be fitted and get constant power to the seat ( without battery drain as well ) Laughing
