To renew warranty direct or not to renew? Thats the question

So my warranty direct renewal came through today.

Ive done 3k miles in the year ive owned it and the premium has gone from £566 to £710. No claims over the year.

Doesn't seem worth it to me, I know the engine could go bang but seems awfully expensive. Thats for core4 cover.

Thoughts?

It shouldn't be about luck, Cranks snapping should be the last thing to worry about when you run a car.

I really don't know, i don't need the car, its just a weekend dog box and holiday car. Wish I could put a 5.0 petrol engine in it, take away the worry of the crank failing at least.

It’s an interesting question, and one I will need to decide next March.

Mine will run out then, and I’m not sure what my options will be.

I’m currently on extra care, but the car has 106k on it. By then, it will be at least 110k, so not sure if they will offer cover and at what cost.

If it was me, I would probably take your offer, but mine is my main car, and I probably do a lot more miles than you Thumbs Up

Sell it and buy some cheap runabout to cart the dog around in and hire a nice car when you need one.

That's not bad for a 9 year old car though, mine was 660 for 3 years on a 3 year old car with 30K on it, just through ageing and mileage you are more likely to have a problem than I am (forgetting its a LR in that statement Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter )

I suppose it may well come down to personal finance situation. What would happen if the car went wrong? Could I afford a repair in £1000s or a new car if I had to. My understanding is that as they get older people on here often state they claimed more than they paid.
Incidentally would they give you a 3year quote? Might be better value if you want to keep the car.
Cheers

What is amazing here is that we are expected to buy these expensive warranties because the manufacturer Land Rover are unable to produce and build a reliable vehicle. My other car a Vauxhall Astra has a 100,000 mile warranty, an offer Vauxhall did back in 2011.The car now on 60,500 has been faultless although the boot catch did need replacing around 40,000 miles done for free under the warranty. My D4 costing mucho dinero now on 15,300 has broken down twice, both in Europe.Go back twenty years were we expected to buy a warranty then ? I never had one on my D1 or my D2. These vehicles cost enough and yet seem to be so poorly built. When my D4 needs replacing it will not be a JLR product. My work colleague has an Audi Q7 on 80,000 miles never had a problem with it.Simples, design it right and build it right.Come on JLR get the quality right please.

What Car have recently published their list of most reliable cars (manufacturers) - Land Rover came last:-

Quote:
Land Rover’s poor result was driven in part by it taking all three positions in the least reliable luxury SUV class with its Range Rover, Range Rover Velar and Discovery models. The Discovery Sport also fared badly in the large SUV class.

Here's the list:-

1 Lexus 99.3%
2 Toyota 97.7%
3 Suzuki 97.3%
4 Tesla 96.9%
5 Subaru 96.6%
6 Kia 96.3%
7 Hyundai 95.7%
8 Mini 95.4%
9 Skoda 95.2%
10 Honda 94.9%
11 Volvo 94.7%
12 Dacia 94.5%
13 Mitsubishi 94.3%
14 Ford 94.1%
15 Seat 93.8%
16 Volkswagen 93.7%
17 Mazda 93.5%
18 Peugeot 93.4%
19 Fiat 93.3%
20 Audi 92.9%
21 BMW 92.1%
22 Citroën 91.8%
23 Porsche 91.7%
24 Mercedes-Benz 90.6%
25 Alfa Romeo 89.7%
26 Jaguar 89.5%
27 Vauxhall 89.4%
28 Nissan 85.7%
29 Jeep 84.4%
30 Renault 84.2%
31 Land Rover 81.3%

Maybe I should be looking at a Lexus Hybrid:-

Quote:
Lexus scalps two out of three places in the most reliable hybrid and electric car class with its CT (pictured) and NX models, the former with a remarkable 100% score. The reputation Lexus has for building ultra-reliable cars seems to be built on strong foundations.

30 mins on the phone with W/D. Got it down to £545. Cheaper than last year.

Although I have upped the excess. Will only claim if the engine or gearbox go bang so not so bad in that instance.

They say that all land rover policies have gone up, the under writer is worried about the reliability of land rovers in particular.

I’d say that list just as easily represents how much each of the drivers of those different brands likes to vocally complain about their cars! Laughing

For instance, as a LR driver I feel contractually obliged to complain, loudly, to any poor sod who’ll listen. But, with something like a Honda*, to tell the nice man at the post office counter just how jolly nice it’s been, clocking up 3,000 miles a year - mostly collecting my pension Rolling Eyes

None of the Honda drivers that break their cars would ever read WhatCar? anyway - they’re more like to read (more likely “look at the pictures”) in Max Power...

The Lexus thing is just a Freemason / golf club arranged conspiracy Whistle

It’s come round again and once again it’s gone up by 200 quid. Can’t up the excess any more and still have no claims on the policy.

Again only done about 3k in the year.

I’m pretty sure they won’t budge on price. I’ve got a couple of weeks to think about it.

It’s getting to the point where the car is almost worthless. I’d guess at about 7k at the moment 2010 with 72k on the clock.
