Replacing Oil Pump Seal without draining engine
Hi All.
I've just done an oil pump replacement with seal on my project silver D3. Undertook this on my blue one in Feb this year and all perfect however with this silver one the seal has started leaking after about 20 mins of engine running.
I've ordered a new seal (genuine) ready to fit but my question is.....
I've got it up on front ramps so the vehicle is tilted backwards. Do I still need to drain the oil out or do you think I can pull the old seal and locate the new one without this?
I'm asking as I've just put brand new oil in and don't want to waste it by draining it out again.

Could just drain the oil into a clean container, being careful not to contaminate in any way, then put it back in once you're done?

Hi Chris.
Am probably going to have to do this but was wondering if the level would be below the seal just to be a bit easier and risk not contaminating the oil.
The stuff is so expensive at the mo I would like to not bugher it up and have to put more fresh in lol

You don’t need to drain to remove pump or crank seal

Another crank bolt of course I will. I forgot that. Will order one up in the morning.
