How long did the job take and being a lazy chap, is there anybody out there who would do this. It all seems a bit daunting from the photos. I like a challenge but the wife will go mad if I start and don't finish, leaving various trim sat in the garage and driving a stripped out Paris Dakar racer!
I am wondering if I can just use the satnav bit without all the other stuff connected or am I being a bit simplistic about the job. I know I need the hi line 6 cd radio head and sat dvd unit, but would this come with a strip out from a broken rrs or disco 3.

So you only have lo-line single disc cd player at present with no amp under drivers seat?
It took me a few week ends to complete it but after doing it you know all the pitfalls, You can install in stages the worst bits are installing the gps aerial and the most cables to the rear of the car .Then you would need to get them enabled in the CCf file.If you lived closer I would gladly help you, still can from here if you take up the challenge.
If your doing the whole lot then this is what you need presuming you have nothing in the car.
You should have the 6 cd IHU head to even think about the screen fit.
Touch Screen
Amp
DVD/SatNav unit
Speaker system
MOST cable form centre consul to IHU & Screen if you don't want TMC & Bluetooth.
The easy way is to find a donar car and cut all the connecters off with pigtails ie:
Grey connecter for Touch Screen
Blue fakra connecter for Video
Grey connecter for SatNav unit
Blue Fakre video out plug from SatNav Unit.
Fakra Blue GPS connecter from SatNav Unit.
GPS antenna go for RSS as they have both GPS & Phone.
SatNav Mounting tray under passenger seat.
Speed Pulse wire form SatNav grey plug to ABS module engine bay
Optional
TMC Amp
TMC Aerial
Bluetooth Unit.
Voice switch on steering wheel L/H side
Phone switch Steering wheel R/H side.
If you do install TMC & Bluetooth then you will need more MOST cable from centre consul to the amp and then to the rear of the car for both units TMC/BT.
Then loads of patience to do it all...

having just read all this, i may not be up for that challenge alone, although if i could gather all the parts you say, the trip to you may not be too bad (have family there to drop the mrs off for the day)
do you think a day would be able to sort it or at least get it to a stage i could finsih off?? ie trims to refit etc?
mine is, the base model so single slot cd and no key pad on the radio!

It would have been cheaper to have bought the right car in the first place!
You will need the six cd highline headunit as well!
Can I ask If you just want the SatNav why waste your time with this the LR Satnav is rubbish .I have it would happily take it out and flog you all the bits.I use my mobile phone with routing that takes account of traffic flows actual and predicted no contest im afraid cost about 20% of what a landrover Nav update disc cost.

If you want the highline screen, you will need the highline radio/cd changer, amplifier, speakers, sub and pannels. The speakers do not come with the grills - they are part of the door panel.
Mine had the highline audio in already, so much easier - took a weekend.
Ones with the lowline I have done take around 5days if all the parts are there. It is easier to get all the parts from a donor vehicle. The bus systems must be connected correctly to avoid data issues.
Ian..so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?

You have to have the highline radio, which can't drive speakers itself. The audio is created in the amplifier under the drivers seat, which is connected to the radio via the MOST (Media Orientated System Transport) bus..
This is the Logic7 version of the amplifier.

This is the 'gateway' between the audio system MOST (fiber optic) and the vehicle CAN.
The vehicle systems data comes through the medium CAN (Control Area Network) to the radio. The radio then sends it to the audio systems either via the MOST bus.
If you fit only the screen and the nav, it will display the Land Rover logo and go no further until it sees the CCF (Car Configuration File) which is in the instrument binicle and connected to the radio via the medium CAN.
..so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?

Reading between the lines, is it possible to use the lo line radio on the understanding that you will not get all the add ons ie vehicle and radio data? I would be happy to have the satnav bit alone and maybe upgrade at a later date.
Or am I being too optimistic?
No bud because the high line radio is not just a radio it has the most fibre optics going through it and it needs to talk to the satnav screen along with all the other components that use the most bus cables.

Your being optimistic!
The screen will start up, but only display the 'Land Rover' splash screen.
As Flack says it needs to see the highline radio, (via the orange optic cables (MOST)), which in turn needs to see the CAN network.
Even if you bypassed the startup routine and gave it a fixed Config File there would be no audio as you have no amplifier.
You would need to upgrade the audio then add the screen.
