Retro fitting a D4 steering wheel in a D3
Hi
Well I’ve got the steering wheel and both switches , along with an extra loom that plugs into both switch packs
Black box pcbs are also on there way
Currently looking for a D4 steering wheel airbag , because I see there flat , D3 airbags have a raised section
When I fit the cruise control switch, what do I need to set the iid Onto plse
Many thks as always

Airbags are the same, no difference between D3 and D4
Re-use your current airbag, it'll fit. Mods:

Hi narpy
Excellent , the D3 ones have like a triangle shape and the D4 ones looked flat, must be the trick of a picture then, great there all the same, happy days
Does it matter looking at the new loom there is an extra red wire , ideally wish to fit the new loom so it’s nice and new
Also on the back of the switches u have the small pin connectors , the horizontal ones, is that for another accessory plse
Many thks as always

There was an issue with later steering wheels not being fully compatible with earlier vehicles.
I didn't suffer this but it is documented somewhere on the forum.
I cannot advise regarding the new loom either, best option, swap the circuit boards over, plug everything up and see what works or doesn't work and go from there.Mods:

Hi
Many Thks, I saw that but assumed u needed to have a heated steering wheel in the beginning along with a heated rotary coupling
Just ordered the new pcbs which should be here next week , I now have the cruise control switch
Also saw the extra adaptive cruise control, imagine that’s also an expensive add on with the extra special front sensors req
Thks again

I don't think the adaptive cruise works on L319, I can't remember the exact reason for that but I'm sure it just didn't work.
If you've gone for the none heated version it's a very straight forward mod.
You could, incidentally, activate cruise control before your boards arrive so it should just be a simple question of installing all the hardware for it to work.
I've done a couple of steering wheel upgrades using the BB boards and on each occasion I have needed a very fine file to dress out the double drilled hole in the circuit boards.
That advice will become clearer when your boards arrive. Mods:

Adaptive cruise control requires more, it has its own ecu, and radar sensors, I did a lot of testing in the early days with Colin from BBS on how to get it to work on a D3, on my own car, it did work to a fashion but not safely enough so the project was abandon, just not worth the effort.

Thks and indeed the adaptive looks like a lot of hard work for not much gain
Ref the heated, does it just need the extra blackbox pcb and rotary coupling plse
Have got some small files, thks for the heads up, delivery is due on the 18th sep , there was a delay because I had to then after pay via paypal
Thks again
