Reverse cam without entering the diagnostics menu? |
|
Hi all!
First post here...
I bet this question has been asked hundreds of times before, but I can't seem to find the answer...
Here's my question:
I would like to add a reverse cam to my 2006 D3 TDV6 HSE by plugging in an SMB to RCA cable in the back of the touch screen. The downside is - as far as i know - that you'll have to enter the camera through the diagnostics menu every time you want to use it.
Is there any way you can make the screen switch to the camera view automatically when reverse is selected? (without entering the diagnostics menu).
Or is the only way to do this by buying the (more expensive) GVIF box?
HELP!
Greetings from Denmark,
Niels

Thanks a lot! Very quick reply!
What exactly is this RR-mode, and am I right saying that you can switch between D3-mode and RR?
And HOW easy is it to do the mod?

RR-mode: the satnav runs the operating system with more options for you to play with. It enables the reverse cam function. In RR mode when you select Reverse the satnav shows the reverse cam if fitted automaticly.
Yes, you are right. you can switch between RR and D3 mode. you just need to "reboot" the satnav screen.
How easy it is, depends on the eyes who sees it and the fingers thats goin to do it. And some times the brain has to play a part to it aswell. So it depends on your level of skill and understanding of what you are about to do. I am not an expert on these things, but it was straight forward for me to do.. like a doodle you say?

Hi all, I am interested in installing a reverse cam to the disco, and ready to do the mods, so I know I need to buy the cable from the forum, install tailgate cam, run cable through vehicle and hook up everything. Then I need to install the switch in the sat nav screen... (the scary bit), and I also need to get the camera enabled through diagnostics... guess would have to connect a daignostic tool to the D3... what happens when I toggle the switch... does it take long to reboot, or is it a matter of seconds?

I went down the GVIF route and it works great, even added a second camera to see the tow ball mounted next to the towing electric socket with a switch to change between the two images. Ian a HIDS4U has been really helpful well worth the time and cost in my opinion

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how the GVIF unit tells the satnav screen to switch to rear camera view. From what i have read in the forum, the trigger to the GVIF is from the reverse light. That would then tell the GVIF to switch over to reverse cam. How does the satnav know that this is happening (satnav is still in d3 mode).
Is the GVIF just a plain automatic switchover unit with several inputs and one output to the satnav and depending on what thrigger is receives, it routes that particular input to the satnav?
Does the GVIF connect to the three open inputs on the back of the satnav screen?
Thanks in advance
