[For Sale] Rear Drawer System - Hand Built Wooden, with two
I made myself a set of drawers for the back of the Disco 3, and decided to see if I could make another to sell on the forum. And again, if that goes well and it sells and the buyer is happy, then I'm thinking of knocking up some more to sell.
I have a D3, but as long as the D4 dimensions are the same (Winch location etc), then it will fit both
Anyway, early days, let's see how this 1st sale goes first
Here's what I'm selling:

The external Box dims are 100 cm wide x 104 cm long and 18 cm high at the front - the front is raised by a baton so as it raises the bottom above the spare wheel winch point. Height at the back is 16cm
The Box and drawers are made out of pine for the sides, MDF for the box top and bottom and hardboard for the drawer bottoms. It is then painted black on the outside only (I'm only painting for the moment, but I may look at covering in black materials in the future).
The Drawers come with straps that allow you to tie it to the D3 anchor points (see pics) and handles to open the drawers. The drawers do not have any runners, I've been using mine now for 4 weeks or so and find that I didn't need runners as they slide open with ease
Both drawers are lined with Rubber matting, which is 2cm thick, you can of course remove this and replace with a thinner mat if you like, but I found the thick rubber dampens any sound.
The right hand drawer is wider at (internal dims) 96.5 long x 54 Wide x 10.5cm high (12.5 without matting). You'll note that I have added a divider, which breaks the draw up in to half.

The Left hand drawer internal dims is 96.5 long x31 wide x 10.5 high (12.5 without matting)

Here's the smaller draw full of a few things to give you an example of what can fit in - note that I got my D2 bottle jack in there (just ) - they slide with ease even with these items loaded (Of course none of the items are included in the sale )

Here is a photo of the back, you can see the baton, hole cut out for access to the spare wheel winch and some foam used to reduce any marking of the D3 carpet/boot space

To access the spare wheel winch, you simply have to remove the right hand drawer and then you can access the winch area - I've used a socket extension that just sticks out a cm or two into the load space area - of course you'll need to supply one of these yourself

I think that's about it, feel free to ask me any questions you may have, I'll do my best to answer them....Please note, that I've added a plastic strip to the box, so when the drawers are closed, they don't scratch the wood - not included in the pics as it was an after-thought, will take a pic tomorrow and add it to this post
This is quite a heavy item, I've not weighed it, but I'd say at least 20kg and of course it is just over 1mx1m, so postage is probably not possible. I have tentatively spoken to Big Dave, but he reckons £50 at least to the UK and of course I'd have to wrap it well. Because of this, it will have to pick-up only or of course use the Disco courier network.
Price....taken me quite a while to build this, and while it is a simple design, it is well built and will last a long time. I may be able to reduce the price for future builds as I will hopefully be able to reduce the materials cost. But for now I'm looking at £250
Forum donation will be made
Dibbs on here please.......
Finally, if this is something that you'd be interested in purchasing, drop me a PM and I can gather some interest on future builds and then get some prices etc. I'm also thinking of a 'Flat Pack' option, but early days yet Iggy/Ieuan

well, for what it's worth, here's my view.....
They are very nice drawers, and drawers are something I've been seriously considering for a while. However, they are also something that I and many other people here think we could probably make ourselves, too - just as you have done. Now, whether we'll get around to it is another matter, but it means that the price has to reflect that it'll be a bit ore convenient for me, rather than something that I simply couldn't do by myself (e.g. I could not really envisage me making a winch, s purchase is necessary).
On that basis, it's maybe worth £100 to me to have you do it, but probably not £250 (even then, as I re-read this, I'm hesitating at £100). And actually, I'd want my drawers a little deeper, too.....
So that's why I'm not jumping forwards for a set..... hope this helps?
