I've never had any real issues with the EPB before but I was marshaling the off-road day at tong today and it hit me big time. Every time I tried to apply the EPB it howled like a banshee, got sick of all the WTF questions from everyone nearby
I know this has been covered loads but my question is how to get round the warning indicator and refusal to disengage? The only way I could do this was to restart the engine whilst depressing the switch, not sure if that is the correct way to do it but it worked, drove me insane though as I was always jumping in and out of the car to help folks out. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Andy, you'll find out through the LRE guys that there is an [untold] problem with the EPB.
I got my wrists slapped for using it in normal terrain, told it it was for failed hill starts only!
Now, if that's not an admission of a design fault .... then what is?
Still got mine squelling, but now not using it, especially today at Tong. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Is yours an auto Ron? If so then you don't need it really but in a manual it's a different story, only option was to point the wheels into a bank and leave in Neutral If I switch off and remove the key the EPB engages automatically. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Yep Andy, it is an Auoto, that's why I'm trying to get used to only using my 'P' mode!
But still occassionally I forget and apply the 'screeching' EPB!!! I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Andy, may seem like I'm stating the obvious but ..........................adjust it!
if you don't feel up to it then call land rover assist they'll come out and adjust it and show
you how to do it at the same time, dodge the dealers they tend to want to sell you new drums!!!!
for £360 + labour. it's more than likely just run out of adjustment on the cable, simple to solve by
adjusting the shoes, well that was my experience any way! fantastic brake when adjusted correctly
in any terrain setting.
I think the problems with the dealerships, with your standard handbrake lever it's simple to spot a
brake that needs adjustment during a service visit, with the EPB it takes a little time.so it gets over
looked, tensioner is automatic so lack of adjustment only reveals itself when all adjustment is gone!
hence squelling! I got told it was because I got dirt in the handbrake drums LMFAO! (best 4x4 by Far)
Like I said it's simple any one can do it and loads of chaps on here will be willing to talk you through it!
have a go and Good luck!

I was joking
Car is under warranty and dealer fixes for no cost (as you would expect).
Might be useful for those owners heading out of the warranty period though. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
