| Slow coolant leak - K-seal? |
|
Hey chaps,
Got a slow coolant leak. No idea where it's going. On cold start I do a bit of white smoke out the back, but I'm assuming it's normal given the age (2007, 130k).
Has anyone tried K-seal, and if so, would you recommend?

It's the go to fix for many in the commercial field, so should do the job for you.

Don't use it. It will block your heater matrix
White smoke on startup is usually unburnt diesel, from inoperative glow plugs

I used it on 2 P38 Range Rovers with heater matrix problems and it sorted both.
You can tell if it's been used when the coolant in the header tank goes a copper colour.

Isn’t bodging it the MO around these parts?  I’ll get them to take a look. I suspect the glow plugs need doing anyway because cold start takes a good 5-6 seconds. Once it gets running it’s fine… aside from the leaky coolant. Obviously.

I had a leaking block on my Jeep Cherokee. I was loosing about half a litre a week, after putting K seal in the problem ended totally and after four years never re appeared and my heater matrix was never affected.

Its good stuff, used it on my wifes x-trail recently as a bandaid fix.

Funnily enough, i used it when the heater matrix on my Mercedes Vito was leaking inside the van (enough to require topping up daily with over a litre if the van used all day) and it was an apparent b'stard of a job to replace, so i'd heard of K Seal and thought i'd give it a go.
The leak was fixed and i still had heat from the matrix.
Used the van for another 2 years before i sold it.
Must admit i was impressed with it.
