Let the car battery go flat .. Then either jump start or charge the battery

It switches of the stop / start .. No warning lights

Just need the battery monitor reset if and when you ever want it back on

I read on another forum that you could permanently disable the stop start system by disconnecting the -ve terminal from the auxiliary battery. It's not something I've tried, as I don't have it on mine Very Happy

I turn off the stop start as soon as the engine starts, if I am to be stationary for any length of time I know how to turn engine off without any help.

For those who think stop/start will cause problems in the long term. My Freelander 2 is 5 years old, has done 63000 miles, has stop/start and is still on its original battery and starter motor and stop/start still works.

If you're light with your right foot then it won't ever come on. That's the way I do it at lights. Put my foot down harder when I think in going to be stationary for a while and just lightly hold the brake if the traffic is rolling.

Quite like it actually. The only Censored is when it auto turns off when I get out to open the garage. And I have to go through the whole process of restarting.

Agree with Somerset Bumpkin's comments.

Its never caused me a problem, however some days it works and some not. Think that is through leaving the Blackvue switched on overnight on occasions, drawing sufficient current that prevents the stop/start working until later in the day when the battery has recovered. Thumbs Up

What is the perceived problem with stop start?
I find it infallible, and have no concerns with it at all, so what have I not considered?

Likewise. Bought a new FL2, with Stop Start, in 2011. Parted with it at 90,000 miles, in November 2014; sold to a friend, who still owns it, with 130,000 miles now showing. It's had a new rear diff (to be expected!), but nothing wrong with, or caused by, the Stop Start to date Thumbs Up

But doesn't the stop start keep certain functions running in the car, which if turning the engine off, such functions no longer operate?

Heater fan, heated seats, heated windows, radio to name a few. Wouldn't turning the engine off also leave you with no side/head lights after a short while?

Mate at work his Nissan petrol stop/start has just killed the battery at just under two years old, slightly diffrrent as Nissan only has the one battery.

Although batteries can inexplicably fail at any time, between around 1 and 5 years, stop start or otherwise. With all due respect, there is no reason to assume that it's the stop start killed it.

I also find the stop/start absolutely fine and just don't worry about it and let it do its own thing Thumbs Up Switching off the stop/start and then turning the engine off manually when you are stopped just seems bazaar to me Rolling Eyes
