Timing belt tools

Sorry I am sure this has been asked before, but links tend to die after a while. Can anyone tell me if the following is ok to get the fan off:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mekanik-Clutch-Wr...B071NGJFHY

And I assume this is ok for the locking pins, but I'm a bit confused, I thought the set would be 3 items, the flywheel pin and 2 cam pins, but this has 5 items?!?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jaguar-Timing-Set...B013LPBNEW

Also wondered if anyone nearby has a set I could borrow. Not sure when I'll be doing it, I don't have a garage so need to wait for slightly better weather! Need it done by May as we are off to Spain and I'd like the comfort of knowing the belts and pump have been done!

Cheers

I bought my fan spanners from eBay which are LR specific so I can comment on those ones.

The locking tool is the correct one for the 2.7 tdv6. It has the 2 cam locking pins at the front of the box, then a choice of 2 crank locking tools at the back. The one on the left fits mine. One thing to be aware of with really cheap tools is the fit. I bought a cheap one and the crank locking tool didn't fit in the hole and needed a little fettling. I guess quality control at that price isn't a high priority.

These wil do for sure..

https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/6124a-vi...3570-p.asp

From our site sponsor... with their forum code, you even get a few % off...

You can save on tooling, but my experience is, in the long end only the right tools saves money...

And if you only need it once? Resell it...

Thanks for the replies. Ideally I want to keep tool costs to a minimum, so maybe spend a bit more on the spanners if I need to as I am more likely to use them again.

I read that's possible to make the locking tool for the fan from flat steel plate does anyone know where to find the details for that?

I don't mind having to improvise or improve the pins if needs be.

There are so many jobs, mods and alterations that I need (want) to do. The wife's already kicking off at what I've spent as she wanted me to get another vito even though she wont part withher RRS!

Any penny saved is a penny towards another job! And I don't mind (love) buying new tools, but if I can save a few quid and still have useable tools I'd rather do that.

I made my own, its a bit fiddly getting the bolts off and then screwing them back on but
I made the tool from a bit of angle that came off an old sofa that was being thrown out, the other smaller part is one half of a gate hinge.
Not great photos but all I can find at the moment, bit of a bodge but I needed something quick at the time

Used them on the 300, and a Range Rover.
Works fine for me and for the amount of use I didn't want to spend a fortune, I just bought a 36mm fan spanner

Now that I see the locking spanner shape and I have a length of flat bar, might be time to fettle mark 2 to save the faffing of removing the bolts from the pulley

I have heard it's always good practice to make 2 and donate one to a good cause?....... Smile .

On a serious note, does anyone have a picture of the fan tooling use? I can't see how it works from SR pics and looking at the pictures of the fan tool.

That should be easy enough to make with the dimensions of the pulley and the nuts. Does anyone have access to get these measurements?

You can buy them on Ebay for £22 delivered. Is it really worth trying to fabricate something yourself?

Probably not, but where is the fun in buying one?

I know youre probably right. I charge more than that for an hour of my time and no doubt it'll take me ages to make one, but thought I would give it a try, and probably end up buying one when I cant make one!
