Nut extractor ( Irwin?) for decat fitting HELP
Hi ,
I tried fitting my group buy decat last night, fully expecting the nightmare of seized nuts etc.
Pleasingly and surprisingly , the top one and inside lower one actually cracked off and started to undo
I had actually left the wheel arch one till last as I thought it was a given that one was going to be easy
Well...... NO I think due to it's exposure to the elements it is far more corroded than the others, which actually still looked hex in shape with obvious flats on them.
The arch one was a rusty lump not really resembling a nut!!
Anyway, have tried various sockets, spanners etc etc, I then managed to borrow a couple of blue point nut extractors ( identical to Irwin ones) but they only had 14mm and 16mm as apparently snap on don't do a 15mm, either way, not a chance, too big and too small.
Having just checked irwins site , thry also do Not list a 15mm one.
So where are all the peeps posting on the decat thread getting 15mm Irwin extractors??
Much confused and supremely Off, will have to resort to mole grips or stilsons etc at this rate.
Thanks in advance,

There is one in the Irwin kit that is a perfect size.
Not sure which kit though, as there are 2 kits that make up a whole setMy D3 Build Thread

if you carefully crawl into the arch, with a fixed blade only hacksaw blade and cut the nut and hit it with a sharp chisel it will just come off no problem, them fit a new nut,

My irwin set from screwfix had two extractors that would fit
One would fit almost over the nut, tother sat more proud. Does not need to be exact fit because as you loosen the irwin winds itself down and gets tighter
So good infact I didn't bother with a regular socket

Cheers for the idea, I had thought of similar but I was just concerned about picking up on the stud threads and damaging the process.
If I had a set of small enough stilsons I reckon they would do it, but I don't Procrastination is the thief of time!!

The 5/8" one fits perfectly, but if the nut is rusty, and starts disintegrating, the 9/16" on is best

I've had mine for years Robbie.
For that price, get the nut off and throw them away. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

I've really had no luck with splitters with nuts of this size and hardness.
